LAST EDITED ON Oct-30-03 AT 05:01 PM (EST)

Well,I was waiting all year for MSTS 2 to come out for Christmas. I have been playing the heck out of MSTS for some time, but now the novelty is wearing off. The graphic engine is less than to be desired, actually horrible. The motion physics and not there, like something you would see on BVE (The sway, etc). So, again, I was really looking forward to MSTS 2. There is a lot of room for improvement.BUT, now we are finding out not to expect it for sometime. Especially if MS starts over on the design rather than not using Kujo's code. Probably a big reason why they canned Kujo, they were probably building on top of the sorry engine. Why I like MSTS? The flexibility to build, share, etc all the routes, cabs, engines etc.I can't wait anylonger for a better sim. So I am looking into Trainz RS 2004. From what I have seen, it looks absolutely incredible. The real world around you will definately throw you more into the sim rather than seeing boxey cars drive through your consist. For those who have played both (no one sided comments please), can anyone give me a comparible comment on them? I am still going to get it in my Christmas stocking this year, but just want to hear what people have to say.Can you share engines, cabs, and routes that you might create.I still love MSTS, just time to upgrade! Thanks all!
-Adam

I have both MSTS and Trainz Ultimate Collection(no TRS2004 yet)and I feel that the major advantage in all trainz versions is the much easier "route builder", which is built into the main program. To find some more TRS2004-specific info/comments/screenshots take a look at:www.auran.com/TRS2004/forum/default.htm

Both have their good and bad points, Adam ! Would be great merging both into one SUPER TRAIN SIM and throw BVE in for good measure ! I don't like the Default Tracks in TRAINZ UTC and the new TZRS-2004. To have better looking ones I would have to built my own routes using some of the excellent FREE Add-On Track systems available at AURAN, which seems to have just as much ADD-ON stuff downloads as MSTS has. Not quite ready for making my own just yet ! But where Functionality and Graphics Quality using the latest cards is concerned TZRS-2004 beats MSTS-1 hands down ! O t t o

I've tried it and never hot a problem.

Adam, had a quick go at creating a route in the TZ-RS2004 SURVEYOR. Easier than the MSTS RE and in many ways better but will have to use better 3rd party Track Systems to lay the kind of Tracks I prefer. Georgi mentioned a Utility which can replace the Default Tracks with better 3rd party ones, but can not see the default "Splining" method of overlaying tracks to build Switches / Points and non-definitive track section measurements used being able to cope with other geometries of tracks this Utility is supposed to replace them with ? Have not seen any Single- or Doubleslip Switches / Points either. The sharpness of the Loco display could be better, not edited this time with Irfanview's "Sharpen", the Rolling stock wheels do not turn and look strange without "Flanges", as can be seen in the one but last picture, the Irfanviewer grabbing only some of the layers displayed by MSTS, needing multiple successive grabs to get all of it ! The last shot is the MSTS WARBONNET from 3D-TRAINS.This looks like it's going to be a lot of work to get what I want, trying to find suitable 3rd Party Downloads from the Auran site without my machine re-booting repeatedly, the Internet Routing to Australia being worse than to the USA and a 8 Kb p.sec. data transfer speed not helping much either.I think I shall wait for MSTS-2 before getting too serious about TZ-RS2004 !O t t oMSTS 2 vs. Trainz RS 2004 (different conversation than – image 2MSTS 2 vs. Trainz RS 2004 (different conversation than – image 3MSTS 2 vs. Trainz RS 2004 (different conversation than – image 4EDIT-P.S.: Added to let you compare Graphics Quality. So biased, why on the earth are you comparing thing that came with the game and payware (or payware creator's work)?
Check outhttp://www.3dtrainzshop.com/
