Hi to all. Nice to be posting again after being being away for a while.Looks like I'm just a newbie again after being a charter member, but I guess my old ID, like my original posts, all got lost somewhere. Ho hum.In the forlorn hope that someone at Microsoft actually takes notice of this forum, I'd like to suggest again that one of the most disconcerting, annoying, irritating features of MSTS 1 is that points never seem to be completely closed or completely open, particularly when you look at them close up. No wonder there are so many derailments! Even from aerial views one is never quite sure which way the points are set by looking at the tracks - only by looking at the levers and the track displays. I shouldn't have to post pics (did that before for those who remember before we lost most of our early posts) but can do so to verify this claim.Maybe someone has recently created a new set of image files that look really good. I seem to remember trying an early fix but it didn't change things much. One of the joys of playing with real model trains is watching the points change. It would be nice to hope MSTS 2 fixes this problem.cytrainPS Hi to Ottodad

Hi to you too, CYTRAIN !Good to see that you are still around ! Yes, I too am a tracks fanatic, going back to my Model Railway layouts and only the ones with the best Points / Switches were ever good enough for me.OKRASA's XTracks points / switches are getting close to perfection, in particular his "Modular" ones: I hope they will fix points in MSTS 2 – image 1I hope they will fix points in MSTS 2 – image 2The new SURFLINER Route Switches are also as real as they can get in MSTS-1, can't wait to get my CD sometimes in October ! Will have to wait and see what the Microsoft Programmers will come up with in MSTS-2004.Take Care, O t t o.

RE: I hope they will fix points in MSTS 2

Hi OTTODAD!!!Nice of you to reply and specially nice of you to post these great pics of proper points which I hope MSTS will take notice of in MSTS 2.Just a couple of questions:1) I always thought Xtracks could only be used on special routes designed for them. Does this mean OKRASA's XTracks points / switches can't simply be substituted for all MSTS routes?2) Somehow I've missed Surfliner - must be recent add-ons for MSTS. Can't seem to locate their web page. Where do I find them? Thanks and best wishesCytrain

Having XTracks does not replace the MSTS Default Track Shapes but Okrasa has improved some of the faulty original ones, like the a1tpnt5d switches where one of it's straight rails was shorter then the one opposite !> Somehow I've missed Surfliner - must be recent add-ons for

It would be nice to have a point SOUND too. I'm very much sound-starved as far as tracks go with MSTS, coming from BVE. No flange, proper track sounds, or point sounds. Tim Frost

Yes Tim, same here too !Been messing with "Sound Regions" to create "Points Sounds", successful only partially, the problems being the changing directions an engine could run through a Point or Crossing and not being able to pinpoint the creation of the sound when the wheels actually go through the "Frog", which creates a sound and not the point blades !Ah well, it's on my MSTS WISH LIST ! Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it is probably too bright to see it.
Anyway, I told you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted 10 seconds!

RE: I hope they will fix points in MSTS 2

That's what I did, Phil.Created a "Sound Region" covering the area of a Point / Switch, using an existing sound.wav which sounds like train wheels going over it.Works in a fashion when the leading loco goes forward over it, but not when the train is being reversed. And as you pointed out, needs to be repeated for every point and crossing in the Route !You know of a better and easier way ?O t t o
