Hello, this is my first post to these forums.I got an idea to write sofware based on Mr. Cox's wonderful
program USA PhotoMaps.
It seems that looking at photographs can be quite a strain on the
eyes. Recently, Topozone.com added WGS84/NAD83 data to its site.
Moving your mouse pointer over the maps shows the coordinates of
whatever your mouse is over. I am not sure how accurate the data
is, and right now my program is in a real early beta, V0.01.
What my program does, is grab the coordinate information from
the Internet Explorer status bar. As of this writing, both IE and
my program have to be open at the same time. The way it works is
this: You go to the Topozone.com website, and find the area you're
looking for. Change the coordinate information to WGS84/NAD83.
Then set the information to be in DD.DDDD format.
On the bottom of your Internet Explorer, you'll see the coordinate
information. It looks like this:
Cursor is 49.000°N,122.7516°W (WGS84/NAD83)With your mouse is over a map, you press ENTER, and the coordinate
information is stored. You move your mouse, press ENTER and the
next coordinate is stored....
When you're done "tracing your track" you click another button on
my program, and the program produces a marker file for MSTS.Future versions will have a built in browser that will automatically
take you to the topozone site. One thing I have noticed is the coordinates only go out to 4 decimal
places. Does anyone know of a site with more accurate coordinates?
The coordinates used on Terraserver seem to change.
For example, say you're looking at 5th and Main, and the
coordinates are as above when you hold your mouse over them.
If you move the photo, and hold your mouse over the same spot,
the coordinates change. Definately not a good thing.I would appreciate any thoughts, comments or suggestions.God Bless...--Deeply Shrouded & Quiet

>You do know you can view the same topomaps in USAPhotomaps
>also, right? Hi
I contacted the author about converting USA Photo Maps waypoints data to MSTS .mkr files, and was told that he knew of no way.
This was the chief reason for purchasing this program!
I have been transfering them manually, and, being very careful entering these into my .mkr file, the markers stop showing in RE. I cannot find a reason for this action.Regards
Bob

RE: Feedback On Software I'm Working On.....

Sounds like your programming skills are way beyond mine--good to have a new programmer on board! You will probably come up with all kinds of ideas as you work with MSTS.Being new to the forum you don't know this, but USAPhotomaps, in conjunction with Martyn Griffin's Waypoints.exe (in the file library), or JohnCS's Demex, can already create marker files.Jim

If anyone wishes to chat in real-time, I'm usually getting into
trouble on #msts on cyberrails.railfan.net.
Does anyone know when MSTS 2 is due out?
I've been hearing February 2004....God Bless...--Deeply Shrouded & Quiet

RE: Feedback On Software I'm Working On.....

I'm beginning to think they may have indicated end of 2nd quarter/beginning of third quarter, and if the fiscal year starts in July (as many do), than that still would be about Jan 1,2004just a thoughtMartyn T. Griffin

RE: Feedback On Software I'm Working On.....

Here's an update....
I was offline for a while doing an upgrade to my machine.
Tomorrow afternoon, I should be adding an internal browser to
this software. I'd be interested in hearing some ideas of what
people would want included.
