Kuju's finances are in the $hitter, again. And their new product is running a bit long on the delivery dates.Wonder what they'll screw up with the early release of alpha code this time??????? Forget all those rumors of bug fixes....
They'll probably introduce a whole new crop trying to get it out the door long before its ready, again, so they can generate some revenue. Why Bill just doesn't buy up their sorry a$$es and give them the benefit of real project management like he did with the original developers of flight sim is a mystery to me. Remember Flight Sim was just as screwed quality (quality of code-wise to be precise) until it was brought in house and give adult leadership!

RE: MSTS-2 for CHRISTMAS ?

I definitely fourth that motion!Who is enforcing the deadline here if Kuju is having financial problems? Is it Kuju or is it Microsoft? I would think that the further they push the deadline such as summer of 2004, the more bugs they can find and more tweaking can be done. If Kuju pushes MSTS 2 out the door before it is done than to me that will never help them with their financial problems, especially since Microsoft will be receiving the bulk of the nasty email if MSTS 2 is released before it's finished.Edward K.

RE: MSTS-2 for CHRISTMAS ?

The difference this time is that Trainz 2004 is nipping at their heels. The last time around MS&Kuju were the only game other than BVE but if they release a sub-standard product this time it may just force more users over to Auran.

RE: MSTS-2 for CHRISTMAS ?

I doubt it is that bad. While Kuju themselves are way behind, independant people have done most of the work for them, both commercially and as freeware. 300 routes to get tips from! While I don't think Kuju could recognise a diamond in a South African mine, Microsoft will!Kuju will try to fob the public off with short routes ( the new uk route is pathetic! and not even of any historical interest), but routes need to be at least double that. You only have to look at the East Midlands route to see what can be done. (virtually free). Over 200 miles of route, 60 activities that come with it, and another 100 if you want to download the extra wagons.David

RE: MSTS-2 for CHRISTMAS ?

IMHO - Kuju can skimp on the content, 3rd party add-ons are gonna dominate the sim anyway. That i do not care about. The important thing is that the sim engine needs to be as close to bug-free as they can get it. (I've said before though - the code may very well be impossible to make 100% bug-free, but they need to try to achieve as close as possible.) If the sim ends up being a bit shy on the content side, they can throw a flyer into the box or something highlighting the websites to go to for additional content. As installations of things are getting simpler, and more and more people moving to broadband access of some type, that may not be as ridiculous of an idea as it first sounds.------ BUZZ ------

RE: MSTS-2 for CHRISTMAS ?

I agree completely with this. I have more than enough of my own 3rd party routes and rolling stock and am quite happy with them. I just need a stable improved platform to run them on.

RE: MSTS-2 for CHRISTMAS ?

For heaven's sake - there is nothing in their report that says it is going to be released at Christmas. It says it is going to be released FOR Christmas. The Christmas sales period starts around October and Microsoft would totally miss the Christmas sales if it was released that close to Christmas. Why would Kuju have a press release on 10 June giving a release date as Autumn 2003 and then in their preliminary results issued 14 days later say Christmas (which is Winter) and leave the original press release in situ. Then there is Microsoft's own site which still says number one best-selling train simulation PC game, will be available in stores this fall. And finally there are all the online stores which are sticking by their release dates. Looks like everybody is out of step except one. Bill
