RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

Well, I confess I'm not quite knowledgeable enough on North American rolling stock, but I'll take a shot at what might be possible for the two European routes. Note, however, that most passenger coaches and freight cars have been standardized across Europe, so when I mention a certain type of car there is, in fact, the chance that they might appear in both scenarios, even if it should be in different liveries. Also note that I don't necessarily expect them to provide us with ALL engine types I'm going to present right now, so you should rather consider this a range of options from which MS/Kuju might have made some picks.
German locomotives for the DB route (all photos from the European Railway Server):

The class 101 - many of you might already know her from the Pro Train add-on series ...

...and the class 103 - most of them have been retired, however, and only a few remain as back-ups...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 4
...or alternatively the 120, which might be considered the first high-technology-based electric engine on German rails...Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 5
...as well as the 110,...

...the 111...

...or the 143 for regional and general passenger traffic...Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 8
...plus the 140 for light and medium freight...

...and the 151...

...or 152 for heavy freight...

...as well as an ICE trainset for high-speed service. It might, however, not necessarily be the ICE 3 seen on this photo. If there should be any German diesels, I would expect to find...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 12
...the 218...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 13
...or a member of the former East German V300 family, like this 234.
Also, since multiple units are getting increasingly popular with DB, you might also come across one or more of these:
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 14
The 423 for AC-powered S-Bahn networks, such as those around Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart, as well as on parts of the Rhine-Ruhr network...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 15
...or its brother 425 for longer-ranging regional trains...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 16
...the diesel-hydraulic 612, which is equipped with tilting technology...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 17
...or the 644, which is also used on some North American networks, IIRC.And now on to the Swiss locomotives for the hypothetical BLS route. Note that the BLS - Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon-Bahn - is independent from the SBB - Swiss Federal Railways - and has been operating some types of engines the SBB never had.
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 18
The powerful Re 465 we already know from the Gamespot screenshots. This class is, in fact, comparable to the German 101, since both were introduced in the mid-90s and have similar performance characteristics. The SBB have a similar type, known as Re 460, which is, however, slightly less powerful, and lacks some unique equipment which the 465 has.
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 19
The newest horse in BLS's stable, Re 485...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 20
...or maybe an older Ae 6/8...
Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 21
...or Ae 8/8, both of which I am very fond of .
Oops...just noticed that I linked quite a few photos into this post...so I guess I'll bypass the cars for now and get to them at a later point, if you don't mind .

RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

To Comment,The biggest piece of railroad equipment the road ran (Freight engine wise) were the roads Class I1sa 2-10-0 Decapods and N1s 2-10-2's (Even though the latter were USRA designs.) They also had several experimentals that were steam-oriented. The first was a S-1 Duplex 6-4-4-6 for use with Passenger service, but due to exceeding the roads weight and length limitations, only one of these was built. Also built was S2 Steam tubine 6-4-4-6. It was, for a period, used on the right of way before being scrapped with most of the other PRR Steamers. A unique freight engine was PRR Q1 Duplex 4-4-6-4's. These were assigned for use out in the PRR's Ohio territories. Just giving you some more PRR info...

RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

Actually you forgot a big one, the 2-10-4 J1 and J1a where the biggest on the curve in 1946. An N1 would have been rare, being mainly used west of Pittsburg. We know for sure we are getting an M1a from the screen shots, and I would bet money on a K4. For really acurate 1946 I would say they need a T1, J1 and I1, but based on TS1 I doubt we'll get that many locos for 1 route in the box, but I hope for commercial quality add-ons will bring them to us (are you listening TA?). 1946 would have been a little early for Diesels on curve in any large numbers, but still would be fun to play with.Tom von Trott

Tom
Probably right on the K4 but don't rule out the diesels While the War Production Board of WWII ruled out any thing other than dual service locos the PRR was high up on the list of stratigic rail assets so FT's are not out of the picture as well as maybe up to an early phase F3 since also the hard running of power due to WWII the Pennsy needed to replace power on it's crack varnish so an E6 or E7(particularly if TA is involved) is not out of the question.
I'm pretty sure 46 is to early for GP7's to make an appearanceGary S

RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

GaryTom is right on about ruling out the diesels. Although I'm not saying Microsoft isn't going to put a diesel on Horseshoe Curve, but it would have been prototypical inaccurate to have diesels on Horseshoe in 1946. In that year, 0.1% of PRR freight ton-miles, and 0.5% of passenger train car-miles were hauled by diesel. Since less than 1% of trains were being hauled by diesel in '46, it would be silly to include a diesel with Horseshoe Curve. I got this info out of the "Handbook of American Railroads". It is out of print, and my version was from 1951, so don't expect to find it in your local library.

RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

The main US route that Iv've heard mentioned is Horseshoe in the (40's?) -- old timey, in the big steam era.... what was the biggest monster that Pensy ran there, THAT will be the cover engine on the box along w/ the related WWII freight equipment...........MattYour Guess On The Default Rolling Stock – image 38

RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

However, I believe there will be different box art images for the various regional releases again. That is to say, the North American release will feature the PRR steamer, the European releases will have either a DB or BLS engine up front, and about the rest I can only guess.

RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

If there is an electrfied Austrian route my guess would be a 1044. There are plenty of them in service, in several paint schemes.Bing

RE: Your Guess On The Default Rolling Stock.

I'm not a huge fan of european railroad rolling stock but I do like SOME engines (the aligator engines, the Eurostar, The ICE) I like the old ICE but this ICE3 needs a serious makeover IMO! lolHopefully some MOW stuff!
