In MSTS 2, I would like to see – image 1

In MSTS 2, I want to see some Eastern routes. I want to see the ENTIRE route of Amtrak's Silver Service trains (Miami, FL to NYC).
Maybe the Vermonter route (for the scenery).

LAST EDITED ON Jun-21-03 AT 11:10 PM (EDT)

I would like MSTS2 to have a decent automatic fireman. That way you won't have to worry about not having enough steam, or melting the engine's fusible plugs when you want to enjoy the scenery. Another thing I would like to see is the ability to have an AI engineer take over for some short stretches of track.mrWM734current project: B&O R.R. "Atlantic"

1 Trains that work.
2 Routes you can run on.
3 A MUCH better beta program.
4 Followup support to fix the inevitable bugs.
I realize thiese are unreasonable requests, and my expectations are way too high, but I can dream can't I??

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

The main points I wnat MSTS 2 to include is make the front coupler work, Activity/Route Edditor easier, physics right, then think about moving people which crash into closed doors.

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

1. The noticeable absence of the send/dont send window...
2. More user-friendly editors.
3. More flexible activity programming, include service priority.
4. More accurate and flexible signalling (numeric displays, dwarfs, etc).5. CONSIST DEFAULTING:-There is nothing worse than downloading a fantastic add-on routes or activities, only to find that they also require about 2,567 other .zip files relating to rolling stock included in the consists. Why not determine a way that missing rolling stock cannot default to standard ones?6. Cab toggle
7. Train toggle.

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

1. Real AI traffic (headlights, bells, whistles)
2. Dispatcher
3. Switch locomotives in the middle of a route (electric-diesel/steam, crew change, railroad change)
4. Realistic helper crews that hook onto the back of the train and unhook after they are no longer needed (on A.I. trains as well)
5. AI switching
6. Multiplayer
7. Fewer errors (they have caused my program to crash at least four times)
6. AE that works
8. RE that works
9. An easier way to make/import add-ons
10. Grades that are lower than 7%
11. Locomotives that weren't just thrown together in 10 seconds
12. Good sounds (stations, trains, cars, planes)
13. More categories for locomotives (maglev, monorail, turbine, gasoline, etc...)
14. A program that doesn't take 15 minutes to load before crashing
15. AI traffic in Explore Route

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

I mean more like what there is in FS2002, although when I added some traffic, it hurt frame rates (I have over 24000 AI flight plans now). Just traffic going in the opposite direction so that you wouldn't have to worry about crashing into another train. If they had it, they should make it so the feature can be turned on and off. But some people either don't run activities or can't run activities. I can't do anything right now because MSTS is down and I'm trying to get it to work again. I'm not waiting for MSTS2, but I am going to get it, and I hope there will be a surge of add-ons like the surges during the past two years of MSTS1.
I would like to thank all of the modelers, activity designers, route designers, etc... for making such superb add-ons since the release of MSTS1. I hope you continue and make add-ons for MSTS2, but only make them if you truely want to make them. I know how much work it takes to build a route (I tried many times myself), create a good activity (2 of my three have been successes), or build a model that works. Thanks for the great add-ons in the first edition of Train Simulator; without you, we wouldn't have such a great MSTS2 to look forward to. I think that MS actually pays attention to what we have to say; they might even check this site every once-in-a-while. I'd say that it's more than just MS and Kuju who are involved in this new program.

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

Actually....
Those planes in FS2002 - they don't just fly around and look pretty - they actually GO somewhere! If you pay attention to the ATC, you'll find that the other planes have destinations. In one case i'll never forget, once i left St. Louis headed for Chicago. Another aircraft taxied out of the gate behind me, took off right after me, and was with me almost the entire flight! I think we split off just a bit outside of Chicago - the other plane was getting routed in to Milwaukee IIRC, while i was getting routed into Chicago. After that, i started paying a lot more attention, and realized that a lot of the AI traffic actually seems to have somewhere to go! I still remember being in utter amazement at the advances made to that sime between FS2000 and FS2002! Of course, it's been built upon for like 15 or 20 years now, so in that timeframe, i imagine MSTS will be approaching perfection as well ------ BUZZ ------

I would like to see:
1. Outsidemode where virtual engineer can leave the engine and check the brakes etc. etc.
2. Multiplayer mode where one player is Dispatcher.
3. Tilting trains.
4. Much improved track sounds.
5. Swinging cab.
6. Better catenary support.
7. Improved graphics engine that gives fair fps.

Every one wants to see this and that how about at least asking for more controle of the loco...think about it you cant even shut the loco. down..and and if u want u could have the locomotive break down..or it would be nice if it was like a real railroad..Peace out

i would like to see them make the ability to switch which locos cab you are in for when backing and what not..that way you would not have to turn the whole set of locos to go in the oposite direction.

All I would like to see is just some route that features GCT or the original Penn Station. It seems we have just been bypassed. What people don't know is that the fun truly starts in NYC

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

Oh, yeah, I forgot something.....
ADVANCED REALISM SETTINGS in the level similar to FS2002. You could set such things as braking performance, throttle tolerance, coupler breakages, mechanical failure possibilities, etc..This would cater for Ma and Pa simmers as well as die hard rivet-counting fans.

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

LAST EDITED ON Jun-22-03 AT 07:37 AM (EDT)

The only problem with this is you need folks that know what realism is about to get anything better. It is like if I were asked to design a simulation of golf play. I don't know anything about golf and find it is not my kind of sport. The only time I have wanted to play golf was on a vacation trip in South Carolina. I saw some golf courses in Hilton Head and said, I wish I knew how to golf just to ride around on those golf courses..hehe. Anyway, the sim would look pretty silly if I designed it, just a ball and a mallet and a bunch of grass.
Now with train sims, the knowledge is more complex and the math more rigorous. You really need railroad knowledge and some engineering experts to get everything coded to simulate the mechanics. Otherwise, it is still just a locomotive, some cars, and a bunch of grass.
BTW, for those of you that missed the metaphor, Hilton Head is an island with a jillion beautiful golf courses, not my idea of a vacation, I prefer the apple orchards in the other side of the state. My approach to a golf game would focus on the scenery, since I don't have a clue about playiong golf. KUJU has focused on the scenery and glitz largely, I suspect, because they don't know a lot about railroading. To KUJU, a train simulator is not much different than a golf game.

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

My requests are few and simple:
I would like to use the 4 cam and see the whole train pass by! Let us use short cuts or symbolic links to other hard drives and other folders for our routes and trains, rather than having everything in the MSTS folder. This would greatly help the consist and trainset limitations and save us from needing a new hard drive every three months....

That will happen after the release of MSTS2 just as was done by all the free- and payware addon creators for MSTS1.

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

Switching cabs!A lot of what I read in this thread is already being done in MSTS. View 4, wants to view the entire train, press CTRL, SHIFT, 9 That will freeze the view. Can't see the entire train go by but if you keep hitting CTRL right or left arrow, you can.Just search the files or forums. Something always comes up.Funny, I hit a big lull with MSTS. Hadn't run it in a long time. Was cruising the forums and read about changing the settings on my video card, Frames rendered ahead, Vsync, Bios aperture...... etc, next thing I know, Its train time. Been running trains again and tweaking the game, boot and reboot. Time to go insane again!Just want to say thanks to everyone out there that makes this forum so useful and fun.

How about multiple road numbers for default equipment. It took away from the realism when you were driving 2xDASH 9 4723 and then you passed another 2x DASH 9 4723. How about more prototypical train lengths too for default freight.peaceMatthew Soknacki

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

I'd like a test ride possibility within the editors, so i dont have to close RE or AE to check whether the adjustments i made actually work.
Another nice addition might be a display showing the position and status of other trains on your route.
Furthermore, atmospheric conditions (temperature, humidity, air pressure) should have an effect on the performance of the engine.Another BIG Thing: Dynamic Rerouting in the activities. Example: You're five minutes late, and the standard platform for your train is occupied. MSTS 2 would then re-route you to another free platform.

RE: In MSTS 2, I would like to see...

What I would like to see in MSTS 2 is the following:
More realstic traffic levels for the time of day. I don't want to see a jam up at a grade crossing at 2 AM.
If you have cabs at each end of the train, the ability to switch cabs. Also, a working front coupler so you can turn back a regular train with 1 end. Like, for example, if you have a commuter train and it has a cab car at the other end, when you get to the end, you should be able to switch ends and head back to your originating point.
I'd like to see different types of rail (joint rail and welded rail).
Maybe even a mission where you can be a train hijacker, and hijack trains!! LOL:-D

A couple other things I'd like to see include wayside detectors. This would mean that in MSTS 2, if the detector detected a hot box on a car, you would have to set out the suspected car before you continue on. Also, the ability to be the conductor or breakman on a freight train and also, ability to be a passenger without having to drive the train.

How about ALL engines being playable? Not like in MSTS 1, where only a portion of the engines on each route is playable.
