With all of the press and regrets about MSTS 2, no one seems to concerned that a route in the Western US was not included. Because of that and possibly the PC requirements, I may not be in a big hurry to buy MSTS 2. I have both Cajon Pass and Tehachapi Pass routes as well as the Raton Pass V2. I am looking forward to some of the other routes in progress for the western US and hope they do not delay the development of these routes for the release of MSTS 2.

RE: Western US Route Missing in MSTS 2

I've been trying to find out exactly what routes will be included in MSTS two, but apart fom som PR nonsense, i have not been able to find anything. Besides, judging from the way the US railroads have deteriorated over the last few decades, at least from my poitn of view (in Frankfurt, Germany), I doubt if there are any really interesting routes left in the Western US. It may be different, I can't tell as I have never been over there, but from my perspective a Western US route is not a buy/no buy criterium. What I am looking forward is the BLS route (Bern-Loetschberg-Simplon).PS: Please do not mistake this for a personal attack! It is not meant that way!

"I doubt if there are any really interesting routes left in the Western US..."Sherman Hill?
Stampede Pass?
Cajon Pass?
Tehachapi Pass?I guess none of those would be considered interesting.JS

Well, not to me, anyways. The lack of a Western route is almost a reason to buy in my case. I know a Western route stirs the hearts of some, but for me, the reaction runs something on the order of "Yay! It's...someone else's favorite railroad..."If the early reports are true and it's Pennsy and Norfolk Southern for the MS/Kuju routes, I'll be very happy. Why? Well, it's the Pennsy for the one thing, and secondly, it'll be fun to have anything NS-related. Of course, some chap very kindly mixed the N&W with the ATSF recently for a route, and thanks to him. Just my thoughts, eh.

RE: Western US Route Missing in MSTS 2

As a minimum, you should be able to integrate the 'standard' MSTS1 routes, based upon the press so far. I would NOT be surprised to see that migration as a function of the install process, but that is just guess work so far. Either way, it won't be taking advantage of some of the new capabilities (passengers, car spawners etc etc) without an appropriate upgrade in that area. Who knows, maybe it will come with that stuff for all six routes as optional install steps??How well all other routes fare in the migration is yet to be seen (and awaited by a LOT of users).Personally, I would rather use a ruote from an area of the world I have not seen than one in my own back yard (unless there was some direct and personal involvement in the real route).Martyn T. At least there is one confirmed US route. Both MSTS1 and 2 don't have any routes at all from Australia.--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

RE: Western US Route Missing in MSTS 2

There are two US routes confirmed, PRR's Horseshoe Curve in the late forties and a modern-day Norfolk Southern route (a coal route, possibly the former Virginian?)

RE: Western US Route Missing in MSTS 2

It seems like MSTS2 is based on alot of steam and European routes.I'm not a big fan of either. Not much has been said about the diesel power that will be included.I too would love to see a western route included.Since I'm pro US Railroading does anyone know what type of US rolling stck will be included?

Well, if I had to bet my two cents of worth for a good bottle of wine (from the Western US...): The best add-on engines, waggons and routes will come from free lance contributors and authors on this and other sites. Probably not out of the official box you'll buy anyway when it comes out. Although MSTS / Kuju anounced to include over 100 pieces of rolling stock in the MSTS 2. Sounds good? Well, MSTS 1 already had, lets see, ca. - ca. 20 pieces for Marias Pass v0.0001 ( 2 driveable engines )
- ca. 14 pieces for NEC v1 ( 2 driveable engines )
- ca. 25 pieces for Innsbruck - St.Anton ( 1 driveable engine )
- ca. 03 pieces for Iseburo ( 2 driveable railcars )
- ca. 12 pieces for Tokyo - Hakone ( 2 driveable railcars )
- ca. 18 pieces for Settle - Carlisle ( 1 (or was that 2?) driveable loco )- +/- 92 pieces of default rolling stock ( 10 driveable engines and railcars included ), to sum things up...So no big deal about new default stock, even if "they" lure us with 13 new 3d-cabs and over 100 pieces of rolling stock. Got my point?Lukas a.k.a Swissie

RE: Western US Route Missing in MSTS 2

There have been some responses to my lament about the lack of Western US Routes that feel there are no good Western US Routes left. Also there was a comment that MSTS2 seems to be concentrating on steam. One of the routes that I would like to see modeled is the Royal Gorge and Tennessee Pass of the Denver Rio Grande. This route is not currently in use since UP took over SP. However, this route would be best modeled in the period where railroads were transitioning from steam to diesel. Another part to this puzzle is the Moffat Tunnel Route from Denver west to Grand Junction. There are many people that subscribe to this forum who are working on parts of this route and I have been waiting to see their work uploaded.2 additional western routes that I would not mind seeing are Donner Pass and Feather River Canyon. Both of these are now operated by UP but could be modeled in earlier era's to capture Steam operation and now defunct Railroads such as Western Pacific and Southern Pacific. The Donner Pass route is where SP ran their cab forward steam. That would be a kick to be at the controls.

My hunch is UP's licensing program has a 3% fee largely for the purpose of getting some serious bucks from MSTS. So I'll betcha a nickle that Microsoft will never release anything that is associated with the Union Pacific. RE: Western US Route Missing in MSTS 2

Glorieta Pass Route will be released in the next two weeks. It is a sequal to Raton Pass but much more detailed. As far as Western US raildoads, they have always been more profitable than Eastern roads because of the longer haul. Today the BNSF line from Belen NM to Los Angeles handles 90 trains a day. So much for declinig business. This area New Nexico Arizona and California is roughly twice the size of Germany.
