This POLL might be better placed in the MAIN MSTS FORUM everybody reads ?O t t oEdit.P.S.. The last option I voted for comes closest to what happens in reality when automatic Brakes Trippers spring into action if certain Signals are being ignored, where installed that is, giving the driver the opportunity to take the appropriate action, like reversing back, contacting his Dispatcher or go and shoot himself if he caused an accident resulting in loss of life ! If he did not perish at the same time, being the first to hit something hard ! O t t o
No the polls aint dead yet. And CajonRon, was it you that was kinda upset about the current penalties in MSTS ends the activity? I do agree thats that is kinda funky and can get irritating sometimes and the last vote would be a good decision.
tcain, I found a great secret on how to deal with polls. If you're not interested, don't click on them. It works every time! ssw, yes, I've made it a personal crusade of mine to try to get some common sense built into MSTS 2 on dealing with rules violations like passing a red.
>ssw, yes, I've made it a personal crusade of mine to try to >get some common sense built into MSTS 2 on dealing with >rules violations like passing a red. Common sense? You mean other than not passing a red in the first place?I don't know, I guess I'm too accustomed to playing games that if you make a mistake you die. -Jeff
I had a friend that worked for the Norfolk Southern. He said you were automatically fired for certain infractions. I believe speeding and running red lights were on that list. I think ending the activity would be appropriate. Or maybe an automatic uninstall, since your employment would be terminated at that point.. lol
No Heffed, I disagree. In real life as in most games if you make a "procedural" error you do not die. Only if that procedural error actually leads to a collision should I die. I don't die if I fail to get clearance before landing in Flight Simulator. I don't die if I exceed the pit speed limit in NASCAR (I don't even die if I crash into the wall) and I don't die if I shoot a friendly in Falcon 4. In real life I see ignorant people intentionally running traffic lights on red all the time and they don't die just be cause they ran through the red (yet!)Now if the actual CONSEQUENCE of running a red actually results in a collision/derailment, then yes the Activity should reset. But give me a chance to correct the error if there is no immediate consequence. I do not know of any real engineer who has died just because he ran a red signal. In my case the time I run the reds is when I'm switching and extend just a bit beyond the red signal (without actually taking the divergence)
Actually, I would like a combination of the yellow and the green. I would like a user selectable OPTION to have an "immediate reprimand" that pauses the simulation, and then would definitely want it added at the performance summary at the end. If the option was not selected, it would just show up in the summary. Also, with regards to the "immediate reprimand", it would be great if the actual reprimand text had hyperlinks to sections of the online manual describing exactly what went wrong, and how to fix it in the future (for people just learning).I've seen some others talk about a "career" mode, where based on your performance maybe you get access to the more complicated locos, activities, etc. I think this would be really neat!Scott
MSTS is supposed to be 'as real as it gets'. In reality, if you pass a red signal, you would be automatically fired. Ending the activity is, IMHO, the best way to represent being fired. An alternate method might be a time delay between the infraction and terminating the activity, to give the railroad officials (and probably officials from the area transportation safety board (whatever they're called in the country you're running the train in)) time to find your train, get to it, board it, and remove you from the loco.IOW.... If you don't want the activity to end, pay attention to the signals, and start braking in time to stop *before* you pass the red signal. Blow the horn when you pass the W sign before you enter the road. SAVE often. If you have to leave the keyboard, either stop the train and leave it parked, or simply pause the sim.The sim may not be able to prevent you from "rehiring" yourself and running another activity, but ending the activity is the best choice to represent the realistic act of being fired. Follow the rules, and you don't get fired.
Yes, I may get fired. But if I'm fired, I can't restart the activity because I don't work for that railroad anymore. So to restart the activity I have to become someone else. But if I can become someone else, why can't I become the replacement engineer to take over where the other "me" got fired.
I'd like to see it play out. Run a red? there's a Z train down the line you will hit, and the act will be over once you cause a wreck. Didnt blow at the crossing? Hit a virtual car or semi, and the act will end, of couse it would be 25% chance at a protected crossing and a 75% chance at unprotected
