EB (Electronic Boutique) have changed their projected release date for TS2 from early September to November 14. Does this indicate information from Microsoft, or was the initial Sept date merely guesswork? Enquiring minds want to know!Bing

RE: MSTS2 Release Pushed Back?

If you mean Windows, that's a bit different. This is an entertainment item. If Ms doesn't get the sim on the retalers shelves before Thanksgiving eweekend, they are inviting marketing trouble. I think they will, if I had money I would bet on it. How about a bet along these lines: One bag of stale popcorn says MS has MSTS2 in the hands of retailers before the Friday-after-Thanksgiving shoppers insanity.Any takers?Bing

I have already said that MSTS2 was set for thanksgiving day. And that was many posts ago on MSTS. That is definitely the scheduled day of release. As I also gave you most of the routes in advance, I think I know what I am talking about.David

I doubt however that MS will change their date because of us.Btw, the Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004 name is designed to let people know that we're a serious simulator this time around and so it's not a direct ripoff It will cetainly be interesting to see who ships when, but the good news is that train sim fans will have not one but two great sims to choose from (or I guess they can choose both). When I have spoken to the guys at MS, they agree that a bit of competition helps raise tha bar, and the consumer wins!A final note - hopefully this time everyone can stay friendly and enjoy each product for their benefits and not bag "the other guys" for the sake of it.Tony Hilliam

Dumb question number #1037, How do your engine physics files allow for physics adjustments in Trainz? I have to confess, I have not tried the program, but I might be interested in getting it if the physics allow for realistic performance.
Thanks,
Bob

Dumb question number #1037, How do your engine physics files allow for physics adjustments in Trainz?Am guessing you could check part of their Content Creation guide which deals with the very subject. It's at:http://www.auran.com/trainz/creation/UTC_CCP_Chapter3.zipjust flip the first page and you get description of the engine config file, with description of all parameters you can tweak.Note this is for current version of the program, no idea how it'll be enhanced in the next version.

RE: MSTS2 Release Pushed Back?

Other sources had MSTS2 release date as being within the first two weeks of September. Moving the date to November 14th is about two months. To me, that's a "pushed back" date. I'm thinking, though, that the Sept date might have been more in the "hopeful" category than based on hard info from KUju or MS.There is an e-tailer game vendor who regularly sends out catalogs advertising games which not only aren't available, they were never indtended to be released. Never announced by the publisher. PUre fiction. It happens.Just wanted to see what you people thought of the change of dates. Not much, I would say.Bing

The official source says "this fall".

RE: MSTS2 Release Pushed Back?

Fall in this part of the woods is generally considered as starting Labor Day, which makes middle September comfortably autumnal. I thought the September date was a bit optomistic. But not unreasonable, either. E-tailer shipping depends a lot upon the distributor. Not necessarily the same as reaching brick and mortar shelves. Bing

RE: MSTS2 Release Pushed Back?

Hi Tony !I got TRAINZ way back and liked some of what it did. There was also this guy who came up with Tracks for TRAINZ which looked and worked as real as you can get.Any idea who that was and whether they are still available for TRAINZ ?TRACKS are what I am most interested in, as Okrasa well knows and if nobody comes up with perfect ones, I am tempted to finance the creation of REAL RAILWAY TRACKS for MSTS-2 !O t t o

RE: MSTS2 Release Pushed Back?

Thanks Tolaris !Saw a Screenshot of them a while ago and failed to "Bookmark" where I saw them. Could persuade me to have another go at the next TRAINZ ?But they will get competition soon with great tracks from another new MSTS Add-On Route. Damn it, had that one "Bookmarked" and seem to have lost it ! Old age again or doing too many things at the same time ! I think that the Feedback from E3 could have been less favourable than Microsoft expected and KUJU are under pressure to get it right this time, delaying the Launch ? Haven't read much about it in the U.K. Mags as yet. Could hand the Train Simming market to TRAINZ on a plate if they don't make significant improvements to MSTS, having "Listened to many of the suggestions made in various Forums", as per MSTS INSIDER ?O t t o

RE: MSTS2 Release Pushed Back?

Saw a Screenshot of them a while ago and failed to "Bookmark" where I saw them. Could persuade me to have another go at the next TRAINZ ? There's more interesting tracks available, which weren't advertised on train-sim... for example, check screenshots of the european tracks made by Hungarian developers:http://www.trainz.hu/modules.php?name=eProject&do=longproject&projectID=86&previous2=1&previous=13But they will get competition soon with great tracks from another new MSTS Add-On Route. Damn it, had that one "Bookmarked" and seem to have lost it ! Old age again or doing too many things at the same time ! Hmm.. weren't those nice new tracks done by Marc of 3dTrains, and shown recently as the work in progress? Bet if you run a search for his nick either in Screenshots forum or the msTS one, you'll dig up something I think that the Feedback from E3 could have been less favourable than Microsoft expected and KUJU are under pressure to get it right this time, delaying the Launch ?It's possible, though i think it's more likely they didn't expect the competition (both new Trainz and the new Railroad Tycoon) to be so tough, and they'll try to use this extra time to introduce some new features, to outdo the competition?.. This could work out just right, but on the other hand if they start to rewrite the game in a hurry, it just can lead to more bugs.. :/ we'll see, i guess.Haven't read much about it in the U.K. Mags as yet. Could hand the Train Simming market to TRAINZ on a plate if they don't make significant improvements to MSTS, having "Listened to many of the suggestions made in various Forums", as per MSTS INSIDER ?Well, there's a number of hardcore msTS users who won't switch for another sim no matter what Plus, the marketing machine the Microsoft has, combined with its brand is strong enough it'd be very difficult to make a dent in their market share.. especially since as i understand it Auran had some problems with their resellers on some markets... but again, who knows for sure how things turn out. Maybe BVE author releases some new perfect, 3d version of BVE right before Kuju and Auran, and effectively steals the ball this way.

Thanks Tolaris for that one:> There's more interesting tracks available, which weren't
> advertised on train-sim... for example, check screenshots of
> the European tracks made by Hungarian developers. Having been a neighbour of theirs in Austria, what little of MAGYAR I had is gone ! Just reinforces my intention of creating an INTERNATIONAL TRAINSIM WEB SITE for ALL MAJOR TRAINSIMs, PAY- and FREEWARE. There is so much out there I and many others are not aware of and if they were would not understand the Lingo !The underlying idea is to accumulate the BEST from all Vendors in all Countries, after having Quality tested it, give practical advice, hints & tips, Hardware and Software, multilingual if I can muster enough translators ! I speak English and German myself and got Family who are French and Chinese capable ! That alone should cover a great chunk of the World's population, Spanish and Portuguese most of the rest ?> Hmm.. weren't those nice new tracks done by Marc of 3dTrains, and shown recently as the work in progress? Yes, I think you are right. Will have another Search !> I think that the Feedback from E3 could have been

> switch for another sim no matter what Correct ! I am one of them who is going to keep MSTS-1 for a start ! Some of the existing Routes may not make it into MSTS-2 ? One of my Favourites, the N.&.J.C., will be one of them I think, can't TDB-Rebuild it !

But that is not going to stop me having any of the others if they are as good or even better than MSTS-1 ! Will keep me chairbound for many years to come. Have they got TRAINSIMS in the GREAT YONDER as well ? O t t o

>Yes, I think you are right. Will have another Search ! The route your thinking of is the Pacific Surfliner which is currently under development by Facing Point Media with Marc of 3DTrains developing the track and trainsets. This route will blow every other completely away . . . it's that good not that the others aren't very good also.

Those kind of debates used to be started when over-zealous folks would come into our forums proselytizing for their choice of product by trashing our preferred sim. Those individuals aren't here anymore and things have been fairly quiet ever since. Proves the point on who was instigating this stuff.

The current poll on our site shows that 40% of people will be buying both sims so you're not alone. You never know, now that MSTS supports spline track, it may even be possible to export routes from one to the other - now that would be interesting!Tony

I'm actually really impressed about the features in Trainz '04. I've always been an MSTS guy, but it's a really great idea to actually have the world depend on you (i.e. loading up coal..and actually seeing it loaded!! and then bringing it to the power plant). It reminds me a lot of Railroad Tycoon, where the issue of supply and demand sort of facilitates what kind of trains you run. It's all well and good to drive a Z train in MSTS, but there's no real reason to do that as opposed to a manifest (unless you happen to like the way an intermodal looks). Perhaps I'll be one of the folks running both sims. The future is looking bright for V scale railroading.Blake Harris
