i was on the cgw route later and got to thinking and remembered a game i once saw at the store where you have to fix cars.one way for microsoft to get even more realistic is to have the engines randomly have mechanical or electrical failures.when they break down you can have the option to go to the repair shop and fix the engine or have an option where the computer can fix it. on the serious problems have a waiting time where the engine is unusable till it is fixed. depending on the problem you could still use the engine but without that freature. example the dynamic breaks quit you could still use the engine but not have dynamic breaks.just an interesting.

RE: Interesting idea for MSTS2

Nighthawk,I like your idea for mechincal failures in MSTS. Things like randomly failed signals, dynamic breaks failing, a hotbox on a freight car, failure of cab signal, or the headlights going out. All of these are minor failures, and activities could still be run with these in the mix.I don't like the whole repair shop thing or the idea that a serious problem could occur which would make it impossible to complete the activity. I say this because the beauty of Train Simulator, is it doesn't break. You derail a train, forget the wrecking crew, just restart the activity. If the water gets too low, there is no boiler explosion with many injures and deaths, just restart the activity.I have not even done a week's worth of volunteer work for a full size railroad in my time. I have seen a tender be overfilled with water, a brick fall out of the arch in the firebox, a malfunction with the shaker grates causing coal to pour into the ashpan, and a bearing overheat in one of the driving wheels. The bearing problem caused us to arrive back after midnight, and hours behind schedule.I'm also into Live Steam, and I can't even begin to tell how many problems that have occured out on the lines. At our last meet a drawbar pin dropped out of an engine, a car uncoupled on the track with for no explainable reason, an electronic switch failed, and part of the 7 1/4" wide track thinned itself to 7 1/16" wide. This caused aluminum shavings to come peeling off the railheads. With these kinds of experiences, I can appricate the idea that Train Simulator, "doesn't break".

RE: Interesting idea for MSTS2

What they would need to do with something like this is to make it an adjustable option from none, minor to major.the idea of the engine resetting damages at the end of an activity sounds like a good idea.engines breaking down is why i decided against getting into railroading. had a brother almost loose his arm to a piston wall.Nighthawk-1

An adjustable option would please all parties so everyone would be happy. It would be like having your cake and eating it too. Sharp idea nighthawk.I always remember through all of the breakdowns and screw-ups that at of the end of the day, I had fun and it was all worth it.

I couldn't resist. Some of these are already "features" we've dealt with in MSTS1. Headlights? Some are bright, some are dim. cab signals-already failed. Dynamic brakes? Heheheheheh
