>Another feature that would be nice to have is simulated loco
>failures such as ground relay problems, unit quit loading,
>low water etc. I also think random "breakdowns" could be interesting. It could be fun to have to bring a relief out to tow/push your now dead train away. However, I don't trust KUJU to do this right.-Jeff

There was a long discussion about this on UKTS.Think the best idea would be in AE define "Train x will fail at time y" or "Train x will fail at place z"--

>Think the best idea would be in AE define "Train x will fail
>at time y" or "Train x will fail at place z" That would be nice for activity design, but I also think random breakdowns could be interesting. Of course, this could "break" the activity you're running, but hey, "As real as it gets". Breakdowns screw up schedules in real life too. -Jeff

Why? have they ever done it for FS? It is not that hard. All you need is a little understanding of file management in you version of windows. If you don't know how, get one of the Windows for dummies for you OS. They have a lot of decent info on the basics of Windows tasks.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Addition For Help Files

I am sorry but the Editor system for downloading engines and cars is not as simple as MS folders system.Kev, not to be a smart ass but it should not be difficult to download an engine straight inside a MSTS menu that has "Engines" or "Build you own consist". When I download a add-on for my Golf sim. I place the course in 1 folder and boom. However in the year 2003 I should not have to even do that. I should be able to hit "download" and bam ! ready to go....

I know, I do that with my golf stuff also. But it is a much simpler process than this. I do not want that either. Most of the wag/eng files need lots of work before I am satified with them to put them into my transet folder. By doing all the work on them before they get moved there reduces the confusion on what I have and have not worked on. also a lot smaller folder to dig through.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Addition For Help Files

Often the downloads require files to be placed in multiple folders and you have to choose a particular file to place in that folder. My original point was "big picture" oriented. My point was why is it necessary to disect a read-me file and choose a particular file and copy it to this folder and yada yada yada...... It is stuff like this that sells Xbox. I love computers and can deal with the folders...but it does not have to be this way. As you can see, MS is adding to their MSTS "insider" website a "download" page for engines, cars and such. I sure hope/guarantee that those engine/car downloads will be effortless.

Often the downloads require files to be placed in multiple folders and you have to choose a particular file to place in that folder. If that's the case, the lack of clarity is the fault of the content developer, not Microsoft. By design, everything needed for a "trainset" entry should be in the same directory. If the creator decided to do "aliasing", then that was their choice... and they bettter have a good "readme" document.Still, creating a consist *is* harder than it should be and I chalk that up to Microsoft/Kuju being unclear on how the vast majoirty of us "crazies" would end up actually using MSTS.

>MSTS. Agreed. I'm convinced they didn't actually expect people to use the editors. It's obvious to me that these couldn't be the same tools KUJU used to create the routes/activities in the game, otherwise they'd be the least buggy parts of the software. I think they just slapped something together almost as an afterthought, and didn't test them very well because they didn't think anyone would bother.I think after they saw what people were in fact doing, and how much grief the editors cause, they'll make a better effort in MSTS2.-Jeff
