There are some more new routes noted at www.bve-routes.com.They are: 1)Hamburg S1 by Uwe Post 2)Kingsmere Junction - Linden Park by Richard Evans Martin Finken of www.bve-train.de have released a new EMU train, the Baureihe 474, located under the Elektrotriebwagen section. This might be a dual voltage unit where 3rd rail 750V and 15kV AC can be used for this train. This is based on the illustration where the picture shows overhead AC and the route Martin used for the cab picture is a DC 3rd rail S-Bahn line. Enjoy!
The 474 is a modern EMU powered by a 1200 V = only running on the urban S-Bahn Hamburg, using trackside third rail. The Hamburg S1 for BVE (http://bve.upcenter.de) normally running with the 472 (built in the 1970s) can authentically be played with the 474.Dual Voltage versions of the 474 are only planned as far as I know, but not yet built. They shall leave the Hamburg S-Bahn network's third rail area and drive further using normal German overhead 15kV with 16 2/3 Hz AC.
Additional News: Today, the Hamburg S-Bahn company ordered 9 new dual voltage units class 474 to be powered by both third rail DC and overhead AC. Also, to 33 existing EMUs class 474 the overhead support will be added. Total cost: 90 Million Euro. The 42 (in total) new units called 474.3 will start regular services from december, 2007. The line to Neugraben will be prolongated to Stade, in that part using the existing overhead wire. Maybe we have the BVE route earlier
Thanks, Uwe, for the information on the 474. Looks like the future of the 3rd rail DC and overhead AC, as used on the Thamslink is very good indeed. It is going to be implemented in Hamburg, Germany. This is another opening for my research in dual voltage EMU. By the way, is this a product of Siemens?
