Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

RE: Piccadilly Line v3.2 Released!

Hey, i have 192mb of ram on a really slow computer(for a route like this that is). I got v2 to work, but have been wondering one thing.
Which would load better, BVE2.5.3 or BVE version 2.9?
I don't know which one makes better use of it's memory to get these big routes to load.

RE: Piccadilly Line v3.2 Released!

In fact Picc 3 works fine with BVE 2.9, but the train panel doesn't. So you either drive in zoom mode or use an alternative train. Excellent route though, even before the errors were fixed.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-25-03 AT 03:02 PM (EDT)

>Version 3.2 is now availiible This must have been a labour of love, for it must have taken hour upon hour of work to create a route of this magnitude.I particularly like the scenery detail which looks very realistic. I noticed things like the vertical railings on the walkways over the station platforms, the fog lights and numerous other details. The stations themselves are nothing short of spectacular, so authentic! Well done! That said I do have a list of suggestions/problems if you do another revision. Please take these as constructive suggestions, because the good points in this route far outweigh the problems. Some of the stop indicators (horizontal markers) are out of position, example at Oakwood, where the red line indicates the stop position, but this is before the native BVE indicator even moves.I thought I saw a signal hanging in mid-air just before the track maintenance workers before Arnos Grove. At several points the announcement are misleading. At Arnos Grove the train is announced as going to Heathrow. Poor tourists There are some long delays in departure after the door closing sound; the first I noticed was at Bounds Green, then several more. The next signal was green, so that was not the problem. The cone.csv and associated .bmp files are missing – I found them in the NeTram objects and copied them to Piccadilly. For some reason the train goes berserk entering a station around Knightsbridge or Hyde Park Corner (sorry did not write the exact station down) It went almost sideways. Then at Ealing Common the same thing happened – train tilted about 45 degrees to track, and the route locked. I reloaded that station, (timetable click) and that fixed it but now the train would not move. I imagine this is a memory problem, but when I ran the 3.0 initial version yesterday, this did not happen. Interesting, huh? Some timetable anomalies - Barons Court is timetabled earlier than the prior station. Is the speed limit after Acton Town really 30mph - I did not see any sign for a higher limit and the BVE warning goes off if you exceed 30mph - all the way to Uxbridge based on yesterday's run.

Hmmm, wonder why they did not opt for that in 1995 and 1996 stock, would really help improve service!

Interesting, huh?Upon further review (to borrow a phrase from American Football), I later reloaded the route and jumped to Acton Town, and I am happy to say that the train tilt going into Ealing Common was "normal" - I now strongly suspect my prior 45 degree tilting roller coaster ride was indeed, a memory problem. The play stands as called ... not enough evidence to reverse. In other words, this looks like my computer doing this, and not the route file.

>Which One Ok, not knowing if you are at all familiar with what is called football in the US despite the emoticon, I will bite! "Upon further review" are usually the first words out of the referee's mouth after an instant replay challenge. Each team has three chalenges to referee's calls per half. The ref will then go to the sideline, poke his head under a tarp to watch the play on a monitor in slowmo instant replay. Or that is what we are told - he could be watching porno flicks for all we know. Anyway, if there is enough evidence to overturn the call, that is the result. If not, the challenging team is charged a time out. There is more to it than this over-simplification, but since this is so off topic, I am going to spare everyone and add apologies for this diatribe!

And I think the timetable is not very accurate, some stations I reach there -49 seconds, some I reach 60 seconds later than the supposed arrival time! And as said above at Barons Court, I reached theree 158 seconds! Then when not stopping at the District stations, I made up 2 minutes without exceeding speed limit, so I had to wait at Acrton Town for 2 minutes!

>There are definetely more errors than that...Yes, I know but I thought the whole list would be a bit much. Actually, I was too lazy. Didn't you beta test the route? I thought I saw your name in the Readme file. Fortunatly the timetable is easy enough to play around with and edit - I bet after Acton Town you ran late for several stops but ended at Uxbridge close to on time (at least I did, 7 seconds early). Some of the other problems ar not so easy to tinker around with and/or I am not clever enough to figure out. I can't figure out what causes the strange delays after the door closing sound before you can actually leave - sometimes it is over a minute.

Also, a couple of errors in a route that size may be very hard to pinpoint and fix. A new pair of eyes may be what the doctor ordered for some errors. I myself have found errors in my route but I cannot for the life of me figure out why they are there.Besides the errors in question do not alter they way the route runs in the majority of cases so I really do not see what the problem is.

Interesting point of view. Perhaps a good way is to download and install the Picc on another PC with BVE newly installed. Sometimes in programming, there are accidents of hardcoding the path of a file without realizing it. (because the file would load on your original PC but not others)

Agree to a certain extent - if the route was beta tested, I would think some of these errors would have shown up, unless everyone had identical machines which is highly unlikely (assuming they don't appear on Tom's machine.)Errors such as the tree on the track, now fixed via the patch, should have been caught before the release since this is an easy error to correct. Timetable errors can be fixed fairly easily but these still have not been corrected. That is not to say that this is a wonderfull route, full of lots of fantastic detail, but it seems to me that a couple of run throughs before release would have found many of the errors that are present in the release version.

Today the route loaded (seemed to take forever) and I was able to drive from Cockfosters to Uxbridge. As the previous poster said - this is a wonderful route with fantastic detail. We should congratulate Tom for his patience and dedication to the project. My only outstanding complaint is that the train stops for a few seconds every so often without warning. Its really amazing what this little program from Japan can be made to do! The first bve route I drove was Tom's Picc2. After that I was hooked. Thanks again Tom for a great piece of work!Chris

The route was beta tested. However I think it likely that most of the testers began at Acton Town since that was the new part. The tree did occur on my machine as did the rails - a result of pasting over Heathrow v3 code into Uxbridge v3 code without proper checking, so my fault. Satisfied now i've admitted it?The timetable was taken from official LU documents (not naming source). The 7 sec up at Uxb, did you take the last 300m or so (from the motorway bridge onwards) at 20mph, slowing to 15mph at the last road bridge, and then 5mph halfway down the platform?--

I understand how excited you were to get the route released, I would be too if I had anything like your talent. But sometimes it is best to step back for a few days, then review one last time to catch things you missed. I know when I do any projects (not BVE) I can catch a ton of errors using this method, because I surely do make a lot of errors. Tom this is a marvellous route, no two ways about it, and please take my suggestion as a constructive one because that was the intent, not to denigrate the route in any way at all.>

There are actually more obvious errors than that, like for example, signals floating here and there, signals without covers, 1973 stock without "fronts" etc...
I don't know how all these errors could have gotten past the beta testers. Well, maybe it didn't, but Tom didn't fix it...Oh, and I think you should remove the motor sound from the 1973 stock Outside Run sound. It makes you have the "gear changing" sound when it loops. I do have to say that green stop marker is annoying, it blocks you from seeing the orange line. I think you should make the the line in the cenre wider, so you can see it clearer.
