My guide on how to install BVE 2.9, for newbies – image 1

This is my guide to help newbies on how to install
BVE 2.9003 Beta, and specially for those who don't use
English as your main language on your OS, just like
happened to me first, after having several error messages.I'd like to mention here that my PC is still an ancient PII 400Mhz,
with GE Force 2 video card, 128 MB RAM and Win 98 SE. I'm
getting 12 FPS at 1024x768, which is rather good so, the following
procedures will take effect on the majority of computers. Let's go!Follow these steps below:1) Obviously, you must have BVE 2.5.3 already installed (If you are
still using BVE 2.03.0008, don't forget to install 2.5.3,
preferably in a different folder);2) Download and install MS-Net Framework (23.0 Mb), from
Microsoft's site;3) Go to START, Settings, Regional Settings and set from your
native language to 'English' language (If you are using Windows
ME or newest, set your country to 'United States'). Reboot your
computer;4) Now, download and install BVE 2.9003. It's recommendable to install
it in a different folder (This means DON't overwrite BVE 2.5.3);5) Rename the old string_jp.ini to any name you
want. You can even delete it. Then, rename the existing
string_en.ini to string.ini. 6) Launch the game and choose your route. Remember, if you are
trying to load a .rw file, jump the .csv option and choose
the ??????????? thing, inside the load game window. 7) In the game, press F3 continuously for important information
(Your display levers, time and FPS).
The BVE messages are displayed
at the upper left side of your screen, in red. Enjoy!!
Hope this helps,(I'm currently coding 'Guaianazes to Mogi' urban route for BVE)

Cheers,

12fps, eh? I have found out, that if you have WIndows Media Player in the back ground, it could raise your frame rate, without Media Player, my frame rate was maximum 32fps in BVE2.9, but I've got 46fps with Windows Media Player running!

Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it is probably too bright to see it.
Anyway, I told you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted 10 seconds!

Beware false techno-gods... do you know movie pictures only run at 24 fps? Sometimes I think the 'instantaneous' readout Bve gives is highly misleading... after all it goes up to 60+ when you're standing still... what would be far more effective is an averaged reading of the whole session but I can't think of a way to do this at the moment... but shouting about fps is a pointless exercise in a lot of cases and only serves to further muddy the waters when trying to objectively measure performance WulfSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

BVE2.9 raises the fps limit for sure, but you still need the hardware to take advantage. My limit may be 60+ but I still average less than with 2.5 especially at full screen where its way less.

My guide on how to install BVE 2.9, for newbies – image 8

At the moment my computers are both broken and I have to use my parents computer to access email and important things for college (i.e buying books online) I can not therefore use BVE, and I haven't for a while now but I wondered if anyone would be kind enough to share with me some screenshots from the new version, im looking for shots of the start-up screen and other screens that are important! If anyone could that would be grand! My email address is no longer nwhitington@aol.com, but nathan_whitington@hotmail.com if anyone is interested.
Thanks

I would like to add two little informations to this perfect guide:1) I didn't have to reboot computer after change of national settings (I have win2000, maybe is win98SE or older it's required)2) Routes are running only with "normal" cab, not with full-cab. with full-cab I see only blue color instead of route and country
I had to change train folder if I wanted to run some route with full-cab train. But I don't know how experience have other users.

There are several you can chose, I think they are440 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768Please remember I'm not sure as the second time I tried it, it crashed From what I can remember there isnt a title screen, it goes totally white and just comes up with a bog-standard windows 'open' box and you select the file as if you were opening something in publisher, office etc.

yes, but i mean train cabs, as the normal 480x440 seems to get zoomed in a little.
