RE: Orpington Extension....

Are you sure there really is such a big clump of weeds...?

--You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!--
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it is probably too bright to see it.
Anyway, I told you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted 10 seconds!

I guess spraying of weedkilling fluid and SRDC 3rd rail doesn't mix... BZZZ, BZZZZZZZBZZZZBZZZZ BZZZ BZZZZZ and one rather unhappy motorman. And then once it's sprayed it needs redoing soon again, since the only weedkiller our 'green' friends will let them use might be water with growth stimulant in for all the good it does...--

RE: Orpington Extension....

Should'nt the third rail be on the right hand side when adjacent to platform sections? Not nit picking, just curious.

Yes - but under certain conditions, i.e the platform being on both sides of the track, protective gaurd boarding should run alongside the conductor rail for the lenght of the platform and a short section afterwards. The protective boarding is usually 1 inch above the surface of the conductor rail. From the Kent Coast electrification schemes onward, most crossings were installed with anti-tresspass grids or what are more commonly known as cattle grids, with the condcutor rail terminating at 9 foot from tip to crossing at lifting barrier level crossings, and at 4 foot from the tip to the crossing on swing gate crossings (where the gate closes either the road or the tracks. For staff crossings the conductor rail terminates at 2ft6inches from the tip of the conductor rail to the crossing.Protective boarding however is installed at a wide number of places I'll give you a few examples.Protectve boarding is used on both sides of the conductor rail (double protective boarding) for 60ft at the approach side of signal telephones, and for the length of a station where trains may be uncoupled or coupled, and also at carraige sidings and service sidings.Hope this is of some help.......
