RE: UNABLE TO CHANGE HAL

The BVE Helper site says it means you're unable to access Direct3D.I would run DirectX diagnostic program (run>dxdiag)and check if Direct3D is working OK.If not,it may be a graphics card problem.

RE: UNABLE TO CHANGE HAL

Aha!!I'd been wondering why this wasn't working on the new (old) laptop I'm now using for BVE. Might this also explain 3fps when driving even low detail routes, and the fact that Track Viewer refuses to run at all...?Technical Numpty

when my sister decided to install netmeeting, I had this problem too (this is why I have my own computer now!) remote desktop sharing applications usually kill your framerate completely in my experience

RE: UNABLE TO CHANGE HAL

OK. Will check that too.I guess that's the problem with buying a used computer. You never know what has been installed by the previous owner. Still, at least it's got a full version of Photoshop 5 Limited Edition...!!Technical Numpty

Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it?
Told you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted 5 seconds!

>But you could reformat it. True, but I didn't get the disks off the previous owner (he wanted to keep them because he re-installed it all onto his new laptop) so I would stand to lose all the software.I will have a good comb through what's on it and uninstall anything I won't need.Technical Numpty

RE: UNABLE TO CHANGE HAL

I've had that problem since I upgraded to BVE 2.0!For some strange reason, I can't get anything higher than 256 colors on my machine. Only 16 and 256 appear when I go to the display settings section.

In my not so long experience of setting up and reformatting my own long line of PCs (I have no more than one or two at any time by the way) I have had the similar problem, where the monitor will not display more than 256 colours, this I *think* is due to the fact your monitor or graphics card requires the correct drivers, maybe that the windows installation disk has drivers that are too old for the model of monitor/graphics card you are using, or that the make is clearly not availble.

RE: UNABLE TO CHANGE HAL

Well, I've downloaded the drivers for the monitor, and the drivers for the video card don't seem to work. Perhaps equipment incompatibility?
