I lived in Japan in the early 1970s and rode many of the lines appearing in BVE, my personal favourite being the Keihin Kyuko (more recently called "Keikyu", a colloquial contraction not in use when I was there). I spoke and read Japanese with reasonable fluency. 30 years later, my knowledge of Japanese is spotty, but good enough to stumble through a couple of the web pages. I haven't been back since. I started using BVE Version 2.03.0011 (with the splash screen melody) and usually used the Japanese language version. The Keikyu-sen and the Chuo-sen and others would appear in Kanji. Not everything came out in Japanese, but at least most of the file and directory names, keeping it easy to find your way around. Not so with Version 2.5.3, where the file names come out in mistranslated Unicode. One a route starts running, the Japanese station names and such appear correctly (bitmaps?), but navigation through file names is a drag.I use Windows XP Home Edition on a year-old laptop. I tried the same with Windows 2000, display of Japanese is generally worse. What can I do to improve the support of Japanese on my otherwise domestic US Windows installation? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.PS: Around when did the Keihin Kyuko adopt the "Keikyu" name? Also, had the physical plant in the vicinity of Yokohama central station been rebuilt, particularily in the direction of Keihin Kurihama?
