A visit to SP5623… EMD GP9 – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Aug-06-03 AT 05:56 AM (EDT)

On my (other) website has been posted a short description of the events I was so fortunate to take part in this morning with a close friend... never have I felt so priveliged as to experience such a thing as sitting in the cab of a 50-year old locomotive that still does on a regular basis what it was designed for, listening to the engine purr and the anecdotes of the very kind man who let us visit his locomotive.I have many sound recordings from the cab and hope to, with the help of a few friends... make one of the finest BVE locomotives available, in both passenger and freight consists. Here ya go... http://union-atlantic.com/images/sp5623Ooooo! Look topic #645! Too bad it wasn't 567... Tim Frost

Wonderful. When you create the locomotive, a request. Two versions, looking out the long hood directions and then the short hood direction. That way when bidrectional routes come out, we can run out and back without turning the locomotive.
Was this part of the trip you were / are planning to take? I have been to Niles Canyon (Pacific Locomotive Association) many years ago. Lots of good stuff in their yards. I really enjoyed the day there. Did not make it to OTR though.

This is not part of the trip I am on right now. I write this from Rowlett, TX, with 2236 of my 8541 mile trip traveled. I have two nights here before continuing.I have all the sounds ready except for the run sounds, Wulf, because the microphone decided to vibrate in its mount when the engine revved up, rendering the sounds useless. I'll send them when I get home as I'm on a 28.8 here. In September we hope to get down-and-dirty helping out with some maintenence but I don't know if this will come to fruition or not, I'm uncertain of the rules regarding this.I'll be home on the 29th, btw!
