When I have been searching the internet I keeped getting references to this sim so I decied to finally have a look to see what it was. Looking at the min requirments I found it would run on my P150 so i downloaded it.Yes the graphics are no where as good as BVE at only 320 X 200 X 256 and the sounds are cruder but it does run at full speed, giving me the Feel of real speed when I drive the Faster routes. I found the daylight graphics a bit bright but the night and snow are not too bad.The Deluxe version is intresting that if you start it from EF57.EXE it creates a new run each time you start the program depending on the options you set including Day,Night,Sunset/Rise,Clodly and seting the totlal, distance upto 99 KM and train type either Fast or slow. it does this by using pre bult modules added in a random order. So if you have a slow computer, you don't mind putting up with slightly crude graphics and sounds, give it a try.Sorry didn't mean it to be a ad.The home page has disapeared and the only place it can be found is Cornish Steam Enterprise. www.cornish-steam.co.uk/mechanikHope some people finds this intrestingTom

Damon,AFAIK Bve was developed as a free alternative to the major Japanese arcade sim known as Densha de Go, which costs money. Seems Mr. Mackoy did his job rather well doesn't it hehehe CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

RE: Yet Another Driving sim : Mechanik

Another train simulator?! Hmmmm...interestingBut I'm not going to waste my time downloading Mechanik until there is enough evidence or enough support that the simulator is actually a recommended download. So I'm going to put that to one side for the moment. BVE will always remain to be the more worthwhile simulator, because there are many routes and trains (soon it will be vehicles ) avaliable and of course a few other bits and bobs avaliable too. Mechanik was devised by a couple of polish university people as a Physics project, and then was put up for download. After the "BVE Explosion" of 2000, usage declined although you can still get it (but no english routes or trains are still available IIRC - if anyone still has them i'd love to have a go again!) and it was recently found it will work on Win XP (364fps recorded apparently!!)--

RE: Yet Another Driving sim : Mechanik

Ah the old favorite, TOm I remember this cropping up in Crotrainz how did you get Mechanik to work on XP, i could start it up and then all you got was a loud hissing sound. I would love to have another go with Mechanik so any help would be greatly appriciated.

The web site is http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/index.htmlRead all the instructions. Get the core package and the "new" beta Launchpad that makes the interface a breeze. If your lucky, it will run with no tweaking needed.I discoverd this a couple of years ago and even managed to get Mechanik Deluxe to run on my XP system. Oh, it is freeware!

Hi,before i`ve decided to move to Bve i had played Mechanik because i had a very old Pc. I had much fun with it because it was the first trainsim i knew and i was fascinated about it.
When i got my new Pc i moved to Bve and now it`s my hobby.

RE: Yet Another Driving sim : Mechanik

Got it running under XP- Nice to have a go with the golden oldie, Steve's EMU route is good and the Japanese route is good as well. Still very playable, even though the Graphics are poor compared to todays standards. If you have the time, have a go it is worth the effort

RE: Yet Another Driving sim : Mechanik

Some idears that might solver your problem ...1. Ok for XP did you get VDMS mentioned in Reply #14?2. theres a problem with one of the graphics cars in dos, if your's was one on them did you get the file mentioned on the download page?.3. Is your sound card SB compatible, if it is a built into mother board, is the SB compatible Option turned on in bios. Some company's don't turn it on, I had to set my Wife's.4. One more Idear I just had, if you don't know Polish like me, find a site that you can get the message converted to english, might give you a clue.Well hope this helps, Tom

Mechanik : UK routes

As I thought Great fun Steve routes, looks like he might have just changed the graphics but thats ok with me ...Also on the same site there's as link to a text steam simulator with lots of routes and locos from around the world including the Famous Puffing Billy before it came a tourist line and started at Upper F.T.G. instead of Belgrave, and to Gembrook as it has now been restored to.The above sime has lots of complex controls to simulate all the parts of a steam Tran from coal, dampers, Injectors and the list goes on. it is written in Turbo Pascal Dos. He say on his site that he wants to make it graphic later. It includes a programs to buld both rountes and steam locos if your got the right info of course. If your an old steam fan you might want to have a lookTom

RE: Yet Another Driving sim : Mechanik

Hello all
While Mechanik is an excellent sim have any of you tried the latest free Polish train sim EU07-424 Locomotive Simulator? It can be found athttp://www.kolej.pl/~mczapkie/maszyna/en/index.htmland has just been updated.
Some of the pages on the site are in English as are the instructions for driving. There are so many features to this that its difficult to know where to start describing them but having spent the early part of my working life on electric locos on the old BR(SR) this sim really captures the rock and roll of some of them. Try it and see what you think. It certainly won't replace BVE but its an interesting alternative.Robin

Will have a look at it now !...Had a look, looks like this will have to wait for my new computer, and its a 28Meg download....But does not look to bad, the cab has more working features than both BVE and mechanik, if anyone downloads it it will be nice to have a report about the dynamics.Tom
