Just in case you're wondering, I'm still around. I got shunted
onto another project, trying to restore my old Commodore C-64 and
Vic-20 computer for my kids. (Yes, they DO still work!) You'd be
surprised at the nice train simulations you could squeeze into a
measely 64k of RAM! Christopher Tarana

No not Siam I have that 2 these were 2 I brought by themselfs by another british company.Actually rembered a funny story about them, when the Gentleman selling them to me cam to deliver them he had copyed them and took them to get copyprotected. He paid some silly amout to get it done. He said to me you look like a smart guy, see if you can bet the copyprotect on them, within 10 mins I had done it. He asked me to write down what i did so he could go back to that company and have a tyell at them.Tom

Hi Tom, the company you were thinking of was DeeKay. I have about twenty of their trainsim and RTC programs. Still have a working speccy +2 to run them on as well. Also have Brighton Belle and the other one with the 9F. No comparison to BVE, but where it all started for me.

RE: Got sidetracked! (pun intended)

Thankyou, knew someone would remember, yes Deekay is where it all started for me as well, Yes they were only text and some symbols on the screen but they were not bad for there time.I then went to a PC and got SIAM, The British Simdrive (Changed name later I think) TrainSim a U.S. one with basic graphics and Vicsim A Australian Steam one that was fun.Tom

I had one too, but with Hercules monochrome video card.
I "revamped" it one or two year later with a "10MB hard card", a sort of hard disk fitted in a free ISA slot.
In those times Amstrad was the cheaper computer brand available here in Italy!Luigi Cartello

I loved Southern Belle and still run it on my PC (in C64 emulation mode) from time to time. The first out of the cab simulator I ever saw and I am surprised that no-one has done a BVE version yet.

BEST SINCLAIR SPECTRUM! :)

When I was three years old (1987), I had my first computer: ZX spectrum b class. My father had talked me of new spectrum programs, but that year I didn't know nothing of train simulators. I used to play Out-Run (Sega), Batman, Chessmaster.... and all with cassettes. Perhaps one of these days I could return to use this PC.... with CD's !!!!
Cheers.

Haha... that's remarkable.I remember we got our first pc in 1990. It was a LASER/PAL 386SX with I think a 5mb hard disk and 640kb of ram. It was running DOS and an OS called Geo(s?) that was basically an early windoze clone, very advanced for the time, I think. It was 2 or 3 years after that when Windows 3.1 came out. Geo(s?) had a lot of fun games and things and I believe it came on two 5.25" floppies. What fun! We still have that computer today and it still works... but I don't for the life of me know what to do with it! We also have a 3com Patriot notebook computer with a whopping 8mb of ram and a 240mb hdd! Oh the advancedness! It had a massive failure (smoke and all) about four years ago though and now the mouse does not work.Everything else we have ever had is a Pentium or AMD based PC from 233mhz on up to 2333mhz.Now that this is totally off-topic... back to BVE! ported it to DOS and now it's used on Palm PC's and PDA's. If
anyone wants to talk old computers they can email me at

>a BVE version yet. LOL if the title is what it suggests (the old LB&SCR Express renamed Brighton Belle along with electrification) then I am not supprised at all. Julian Pope and myself have numerous amounts of times tried to recreate the line from Victoria and Brighton and in reality the trackwork is a doddle but scening it is another thing altogether, I take it that you've heard of clapham junction and other major scening problems en route? Although I've come close with the Croydon - London part but its just a bugger getting it scened, which is strange really because the Brighton line isn't that long (51miles end to end) yet its very complicated, im sure there is a genius out there somewhere who could mannage it.--

it's just a matter of patience. somebody once demostrated building waterloo for BVE with every platform, track and siding. i can't remember who it was. maybe someone has the trackviewer screenshot somewhere. on the 1970s version of York- Doncaster i have to build 15 platforms, 3 through roads and 4 ovoiding lines as well as crossovers!
i loved playing magicland dizzy on my mates C64 but i used to hate waiting for the thing to load

my work?
well i haven't started work on the 1970s version of york. the modern version of york is pretty much done, but this time, i started with the south end. all i've done is the track along with some of the OLE and signalling, and to be honest i'm a bit reluctant to show it off in it's unfinished state, as i tend to work in sporadic patches. i also spend alot of time making sure everything looks OK. as you can see, the loco siding on the left has yet to be added. the independant ovoiding lines are in, but there is a facing crossover to add, aswell as the siding between platforms 6 and 7. then there is the sidings that run outside the ovoiding lines. i've added the unfinished doncaster works object, as well as the up and down side buildings, also unfinished. it's taking such a long time but i'm spending much time getting trackwork right. i'm also spending alot of time building common objects etc etc.

Nice Denison House. Take it you're going to be at the open weekend next Sat / Sun (Phone 790170 for tickets), rare opportunity to look round the works!Don't forget that there used to be two sidings between P6 and P7 and the buffers reflect this .--

I had the unfortunate task of scening the Southern end of the ECML (still not finnished), which the trackwork for was awful. I need someones opinion if anyone has time to test because I think there is big gaps between the track in a lot of places.--

you could do, but i'm not too familiar with the southern end. if the trackwork is a mess then maybe i could help out, although it is a time consuming process! and thanks tom, yes i did know there where 4 tracks. i've been there on many occasions! i'm surprised there are still 4 buffers. the down side building end is photorealistic and it needed major surgery because of the amount of spotters who decided to congregate in front of it for some reason. i've also added something nice to the side of denison house which you won't be able to see from there. i'm waiting to get a decent side texture to complete the building.
but anyway....... back to the topic.........

I think we may have to start again on this southern section although if you are interested in looking at what we *had* done so far, you are more than welcome to, if you drop me an email(not private message) so that I can send it to where you sent it from lol, well I have a feeling we are going to take it up the fast lines but in the dieselisation era, it will take some time but having seen your work reminds me that time should be taken over work and I think a restart from the crossover is important. But please do check out anything we have done (Tomboyracer).--
