I have been running BVE for ages on Windows XP and it has always been fine. But today i turned on my computer and clicked on the bve icon, the following message was displayed:
UNABLE TO CHANGE HAL.
Why would bve suddenly say this when it has always been fine?
>Hi Everyone, >UNABLE TO CHANGE HAL. > >Why would bve suddenly say this when it has always been >fine? >IIRC, this is when BVE is unable to start Direct3D properly or cannot find a sufficient 3D Accelerator - is your video card working properly at the moment? If it isn't (check to see if any other 3D-intensive games you may have work) I'd recommend reinstalling DirectX and your video card drivers - something has gone awry there IMHO.
Currently recreating the Heathrow Express for BVE.
I get this all the time. If you have Track Viewer running and start BVE it will do this. If track vieweer has a route loaded, it does this. Similarly if you load a route into Track Viewer and then Start Structure viewer, It does the same thing. Just close Track Viewer...
That would seem to indicate some conflict in the system as to which app can grab priority on the Direct3D driver files...?Saxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve
when my meddling sister used to insist on installing netmeeting on the comp i used to get that error, and i'd get 7fps max. try uninstalling anything that uses remote desktop sharing.
