Definately .zip! I can see where the files are going It doesn't crash my computer temporary when copy/cut/paste .exe files I don't have to wait for all the .exe icons to load, which crashes my computer temporary as well. Whn copying to CD, I don't have to wait for the computewr crashing temporary for every .exe file copied.

ZIPyou can see where files are going, unless it is the exe that already has the right locaton in.I dont think as many peple have winrar and some dont understand other extensions.zip is my choice Visit my site at- www.bvedepot.co.uk
>EXE is a lot simpler, press the button and you're done. > >However, in all...... > >WINRAR RULES! > >-- >Tom Beevers >http://brj.rr.nu I'll second that Tom, winrar is good at compressing files without corrupting the it's well worth the download, the SFX archives (*.exe) are made using winrar, and it can be downloaded from:http://www.rarsoft.com -- Nathan Whitington
A thing: I have Power Archiver and I can extract *.exe zipped files! Can you make this? A example: I choose Routefiles of Piccadilly Line (is in *.exe extension). Then I click Extract to the folder which PA creates and ¡¡¡puf!!!, I have the new Routefiles in that new folder. Here are the screenshots. Cheers, Rufus.
>Whn copying to CD, I don't have to wait for the computewr >crashing temporary for every .exe file copied. I agree that .Zip is probably best for novices, but a good .exe installer makes things easy too. WinRar is very good too. Like a lot of things, it depends on the person archiving the files. The only gripe I have with WinZip is it's NOT having an integeral Pkzipfix type of Zip file repair. BTW, what OS are you running that runs so bad? I've never had to wait for icons to load or had a crash when copying a file. Christopher Tarana Ferroequinologist
Win 98. If I open a file full of .exe, all with different icons, my computer will hang temporary, the mouse won't move, etc... then about 15 seconds later, the icons start to load(originally, icons look like the MS-DOS icon except that it is white instead of black), and then the the computer starts working again. Same as copying. After I select the files and press Ctrl+C/Ctrl+X/Delete, it also hangs temporary.

You could have something working in the background and not know it. I have Win98 on a P2 Celeron with 64 megs RAM, a SiS6236 AGP SVGA card with 8 megs, and a 4 gig WD HD. Win98 needs at least 200 megs free on the HD to run well. I run the desktop at 800x600x16 bit. PM mail me and we'll go into it off the open forum. Christopher TaranaFerroequinologist

Win98 P3 667Mhz 128MB RAM 16MB Video Card 20GB hard disk, with about 1.5GB left 800x600x16 I don't think there is spyware, as Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn't show anything much running in the background.

Another reason why I like .zip is that if the download is corrupted, e.g. It downloads only 30%, then says Download Complete, Winzip, wil say the file is corrupted, and will not unzip. But if it is an .exe file, it will still extract, and then halfway, it will give an error. And then usually, I would go back into that folder to delete those half installed files first, before instaling again, with a freshly downloaded one.

Winrar gives a lot better compression when stored in .rar format. However as, strange as it may seem, most people don't have it, I use exe installers for distribution. However I have always distributed beta copies and done backups in RAR format.-- Tom Beevers http://brj.rr.nu
