Hi Gang!!I can't be the only one to have messed up big time at the helm of a BVE train. Here's my confession. The first time I drove the Edinburgh to Aberdeen freight run, I was having a spot of bother getting used to the braking system on the Class 66 loco. Having done my share of braking way too heavily, I felt that I had just about mastered it.What's the old saying about pride...?Anyway, I was belting along at 75mph and and approaching the entrance to the Laurencekirk Loop. Apply brakes, round the left hand bend and "are those the points I have to make?". SHHIIIIIITTTT!!! Even with the emergency brake on, I took the points at around 50mph and carried on to overshoot the signal at the end!! It was quite interesting to see what BVE made of it, as the train pitched over to around 45 degrees in one direction and then 45 degrees in the other, before rolling like a ship the length of the loop. Mr Angry was not best pleased either.Anybody else got anything to confess to...?Technical Numpty

Overspeeding. And altering the trains that runs on routes (e.g. a DLR on the TTC) and when I haven't drive them for a long time, I tend to overshoot in the end due to miscaculation.

My worst is blatant ignoration of signals and posted speed limits, especially when the speed limits don't take effect, they're just markers and objects.I do follow speed limits that protect curves and points but I usually ignore those that are low just for no reason.I also have a habit of accelerating halfway down the platform with subway trains to save myself about 3 seconds, even though I'm already ahead of schedule.Oh and I constantly override the safety systems while developing... When i'm developing I never take notice of signals whatsoever and am usually several hours late...One memorable occasion I started adding signals at Baron's Court and started up BVE to test it as I went along. Tested first few stations, left BVE running, added a few more, tested them etc. By the time I got to Cockfosters the BVE clock was something like 17:00 (the arrival at Fosters in the TT is, IIRC, 14:49)--

Tom, in your Cfs-Htw-Cfs, when you arrive at Heathrow Loop (or siding) can you wait without troubles one hour and twelve minutes, when in the csv file you say we must wait only six minutes? Ay ay ay ay ay..... (I'm spanish, I don't know how do you say this in english ).
Nothing more.Cheers.

RE: Embarrassing moments while driving BVE

OK Tom. Don't worry.
Well. I would like to make sounds (with my own voice) like: "This train terminates at.....", "This is....." or, in main rail routes (ex.:Watford Junction....): This train stops at....... Of this way all BVE-ers will feel like there are driving in the reality.Cheers, Rufus.

I have rerecorded all the sounds as the old ones were pretty bad. If you want to make some station announcement's that'd be great, you don't really want to hear the same person on the trains *and* the stations (if at all )!--

well, aside from the occasional speeding, just to get back on time, the major moments usually revolve around going straight through buffer at the end of routes, due to receiving texts ot someone talking to me! Whoops! What about the luckiest stop? The first time I drove the ashfield route, I was distracted and then saw a station, so I slammed on the brakes a max, and came nicley to rest 0.03m from stop point! Quite good I thought!!!

Testing early trackwork of the Heathrow Express route, taking the curve at Airport Junction at 100mph (which I think is the line speed) however there were no camber adjustments input, besides, I think there was a blip in the maths and the curve was too tight. Imagine a virtual Class 332 coming off the rails and doing some serious rolling. BVE had to replace the train on the track three times and was rocking like a ferry in a Force 9 gale. Oh the joys of development driving...Then, there is an infamous time driving Hammerwich, lovely mug of steaming coffee in hand. The shock of hearing the EB warning (I happened to have the PC plugged into my hi-fi for that real diesel effect!) led to a subsequent spilling of said coffee all over my carpet and trousers. Not a good idea.

Currently recreating the Heathrow Express for BVE.

Try it with the 321 or 310 on the WJ-MKC, approaching Hampstead(?) at full speed, where it rocks like mad when crossing the tracks, way more than 3 times, more like BVE replacing the train 9 times on the track! Or try the Glasgow Underground, when crossing the points from after you get away from the tunnel at full speed!

Eh, where did my signature go?
Where has my favourite LUL train gone? Maybe it was sent for bolt checking again...

Something only I can do as yet, but you can do a liitle of it, put the DLR route on full power from Bank Crossover all the way to Lewisham! Those tight curves REALLY DO ROCK THE TRAIN! (It should really derail!) Or try an electrostar on it!!!! You can do it up to Canary wharf though, but you stil have a few tight points and a 125m radius curve to experience!!

RE: Embarrassing moments while driving BVE

Permanent embarrassment is being so involved in the cab view that I forget the type of train I'm driving. Come up to a point where 'coast' is called for, press hard down on the 'A' key and suddenly find the brakes are full on because I forgot the train was a single-control type. Many times, many, many times, many, many, ..... Anyway, maybe one of the drivers on the forum can say if there is anything built into real controllers that can give some indication when the control handle passes through 'neutral'. I suspect not, rather that it's simply a case of being able to feel when the 'joystick' is in neutral, much as there wasn't a device on tram controllers indicating the transition to braking.Since, when pressing a button, you can't get a feel for the actual position of the controller is there a possibility that a 'stop' can be introduced at the neutral point in BVE trains so that the control always halts there rather than running into an opposite phase? (Releasing brakes can also, if concentrating on a stop point, result in inadvertent acceleration.) Once the key is released it is then free to move again in either direction so control is handed back to the driver. One other, albeit perhaps small, point is that as far as I know cancelling the AWS horn counts as an 'alive' activity and therefore resets the vigilance device timer - I've been caught on a couple of occasions with, having cancelled the AWS horn, finding the DVD blaring at me. Or is this just a feature of trains being in transition between non-AWS responsive and AWS responsive

Does coming round a bend at 200mph on a sper-voyager with a 20 limit and not really having much chance of stopping count under this section.I'm not sure...

You mean 200km/h since the Super-Voyager's speedometer is in km/h?

If you look at the BVE class 323 you will see a slight kink in the handle's runner just like the real train. When going from Step 3 braking to Emergency there is a lot of resistance, you really have to push the handle hard to get the emergency brake activated!Cheers

RE: Embarrassing moments while driving BVE

What happens often when I'm driving a train is that I see a yellow signal, so I start to brake. I slow down to, let's say, 40 km/u. While I'm driving with this 'smooth' speed, I start to dream and think about other things. I forget about the upcoming red signal, untill I'm very close to it and then I have to apply the brakes to the max to come to a stop just before the signal (IF i make it...). Passagners are always angry when I'm doing this... It's the same with stopping at a station. I start to brake when I'm approaching a station. But sometimes a brake to hard and I have to release the brakes to prevent comming to a halt to soon. So I roll on with a low speed, thinking that I'll have enough time to stop at the right position. However, many times I keep running on with this low speed to long and I have to brake hard to make it to a stop before I've passed the stopposition... angry passagners again... Well, I guess these sort of things happen for real also. This morning the busdriver of the bus I was in, passed a busstop while somebody had pushed the stopbutton... I guess he was dreaming... Bye,BassV
