Mark,Right click on the problem file and select "open with winzip" then you should be able to extract it manually (obviously you have to have winzip installed) then all should be well Seems don has a problem with his self extract compressorMr Gizmo

My apologies gentlemen (& ladies). There was a screw-up with cached files and Winzip. Hopefully all is now well.
Thankyou for the feedback. In future "updates" Portlethan will be all one word. Can the "platform displacement" at Dundee be explained a bit please? And what is the routing into Aberdeen to reach platform 6N?Don

>http://www.gotopcs.netDonFrom memory , trains that terminate in Aberdeen usually use the bays in the right hand side of the station (I think numbered 1,2,3,4) also used by GNER Terminating services. Platform 5 I believe is used for the Sleeper and services running from the South (IE Glasgow/Edinburgh) going to Inverness and Platform 6 (Nearest Clayhills Carridge sidings) Are used for the Local Aberdeen - Inverness service. Not sure about the locals but the last time I was in Aberdeen , that was the setup. May have changed now. Hope this helps

RE: Edingburgh - Aberdeen update

So, am I right in saying that the HST's normally stop in platform 4, the first bay platform to the right of the through lines? I thought this (bay) was platform 3.
Also, am I correct to assume that the 158, 170 and 2x37's should come to rest on platform 5, the one to the right of where they stop now (presumably platform 6). You may have gathered that my memory of Aberdeen station is extremely rusty.
Where do the 2 through lines join up N of the station - there is only a single line through to Dyce. Do the platform 5 and platform 6 lines join "in the middle" or which one goes "straight on"? And how many metres beyond the end of the station does this happen? At least 2 relies to the above would be appreciated! Don

RE: Edingburgh - Aberdeen update

You finally got to Aberdeen Are you going on to Wick !This must have been a monumental task. Well done to the author. I ran the 158 route and there was a platform displacement problem in Dundee. Also, the station between Stonehaven and Aberdeen is called Portlethen.(all one word) Trains going onward to Dyce usually crossover to platform 6N within the station.

I don't know why no one is sayig this error, but when you load any of the 158 and 37 route files(haven't tested the 170 and 150 yet), you will get an ReadRail, Error 9, Subscript out of range.

RE: Edinburgh - Aberdeen update

Ladies and gentlemen,The plot thickens. This error 9 business has really got me confused now. Yesterday when I tried to run any of the Aberdeen routes on my laptop it came up consistently with "error 9". Today, guess what? All four routes (inc. revised Carnousite) run perfectly. So the bottom line is that I can't debug the code as I have no bug (apparently). And the routes are exactly the ones avaiable on my website.Meanwhile, back at Aberdeen station....... Is that an HST I can hear in the distance?Don

"when you load any of the 158 and 37 route files you will get an ReadRail, Error 9, Subscript out of range"I believe there is an error somewhere in the 4-5000 lines of code, but as yet, I haven't been able to locate it. The routes run fine on my desktop PC but fail with "error 9" on my PII 300Mhz laptop. I will try to ferret this one out. Sorry for any inconvenience it is causing - mind you, I'll be a bit miffed if it turns out to be a bug in BVE (I'm running 2.5.3 on both computers). Don

>I don't know if this has been mentioned. Yes, it has. I get the same problem(see above posts). Hey I notices you said you usd BVE 2.5.3 and I am using BVE 2.3 now. So I counted whether the number of freeobects overshooted the 256 limit. No, it didn't, so did the wall and other commands. But then, I searched for the number of .freeobj commands. It came up with 4725 of them... So I suspect that is the problem?

RE: Edinburgh - Aberdeen update

To Don,I have sent you an email with track layout for Aberdeen Station. Please ignore the platform displacement problem at Dundee. It appears that my computer graphics card does a wobbly if you run the route then restart at say Dundee or Leuchars. The train sits off the rails and on the platform concourse ! But the problem is only temporary and doesnt occur if the route is started elsewhere.

RE: Edinburgh - Aberdeen update

Hopefully all the problems are now sorted out. It is definite that BVE 2.5 IS required to run the route as earlier versions won't cope with all the freeobj's. Also, there were 2 syntax errors hidden in the depths which caused the track spacing to screw up if you jumped back from Montrose or beyond. I think I've left a dummy station "133100"? in the route by mistake - please ignore it - I'll weed it out next time I do an update. It may already be gone! There are 5 runs now, the new one being an HST thrash (to platform 5). All other Aberdeen services use platform 6N now.Don

RE: Edinburgh - Aberdeen update

Francis,I am amazed you manage to run any route on your computer. My laptop is very similar in spec to your PC:Pentium II 300Mhz
192Mb RAM
ATI Rage Lt graphics 4MB?
Win 98I can't run ANY long BVE routes on my laptop without it crashing UNLESS I turn down the graphics acceleration all the way to zero. This then gives a frame rate of less than one per second, but the routes don't crash. I also find the Shft-F3 clock runs about 1/3 normal speed, i.e. the whole thing is running way too slow - processor grossly overloaded!
You don't have a birthday coming up, do you? You need a Pentium III at 450Mhz minimum to make BVE "sing" in my experience.Don

Yes, although it is a bit faster, but I do not have any problems running any route if they don't overhoot the BVE 2.03 limits. But I notch the drawing distance down to 300m, to get approximately 27-30fps on every route, even on X-City high detail until it gets to New Street...

RE: Edinburgh - Aberdeen update

Having done an extremely stupid thing ( D-uh!) some time ago I cannot upgrade BVE. So until that mess is sorted out I'm on, what is it? 2.03? Which means I can't run Edinburgh to Aberdeen, as is, which is a very great shame in the circumstances. However, tonight I tried a 'Moorfield - Wood Green' and chopped the 2xcl37 route in two at Dundee. I have never had any problem with running the route even as far as Arbroath and Dundee seemed a reasonably logical halfway point. So far it seems OK - I got three 'RenewBlock' errors on rendering the Dundee - Aberdeen part but they don't seem to make much difference, not that I can see. I've run the train to Broughty Ferry and all seems well in order. If you don't want or can't get the latest release of BVE maybe this is a partial answer.Just a thought. Going away to relish the whole route now, , in pieces, 'twill take a week or so but, ....Chris L.

- think I would have got a darn sight more than three renewblock errors in that case. I actually had those errors before when starting a drive at Dundee on the original Carnoustie route. If I started at Leuchars the error didn't occur. As I said, the error is not fatal - so far.Chris L.

RE: Edinburgh - Aberdeen update

DonApproach to Aberdeen looks very good. To fine tune I would create a large station concourse canopy behind platforms 5,4 and 3. End shape is triangular and twice the height of the platform canopies. Also, trains proceeding onwards to Dyce usually crossover to platform 6N at the crossover points in the centre of the station (i.e crossover between 7S and 6N).
