idea 1.Does anyone know who developed the loop route because
with some variations I feel it could be well suited to
haveing a Welsh variant out of the Sandymill collection.Even better if someone was to tweak it so that it
had appropriate semaphore signals(like the remote
welsh lines did have unti the mid-80's)Of course BRR already has British Semaphores but
only for .signal types, if doign the route as
full semaphore there would need to be other
considerations..Appropriate Stock is another issue although these
days I would suspect a Pacer or 153 on the route
(which isn't the same as a loco-hauled or whatever
the old DMU's used were.)The other idea from Loop was a canoe or raft trip down
the river that features prominently in the route!
(Watch out for the currents!..)Idea 2I'd really like a UK Narrow Gauge line...
Im hearing encouraging noises from one developer here
about one on the South Coast but I was also hoping
someone would think about doing one of the North Wales
lines.. complete with Welsh String language file :-PAlex

A bit OT, but I've just sussed out your header coding(30026020) is the current date typed backwards?! I think that working semaphores could easily be achieved (as objects, however, using markers to "display" the aspects in the cab) by using the 25m unloading technique. Also, I believe the Loop route was developed by user ferrovipathe. http://ferrovipathe.free.frHope this helps!Peace,

RE: Ideas (30026020)

The 25m unloading technique relies on one object completely masking a second, placed close behind it, so that when the first object is unloaded, the second is revealed. 25mut semaphore arms thus require a sighting board (the white background), whether or not the prototype would have had one. However, it's possible to extend 25mut by taking advantage of the fact that BVE only *loads* an object when its .freeobj command falls within the Drawing Distance. The object itself can be projected back or forward in the Z direction as far as you like - it's the placing of the .freeobj command what matters. The idea is to make one object disappear and another appear on the same 25m boundary and so produce a crude animation. Making the two objects line up requires careful calculation of Z-offsets (and X-offsets and rotations if there are curves and turns involved). This can be tricky and taught me more about BVE geometry than I really wanted to know, but it works quite well (though I never did crack situations where the gradient changes). Of course, one set of objects and their route file only work for a particular drawing distance. The pictures show 25mut/XA applied to LNER(ish) upper quadrant semaphores, but ground discs, NER slotted post, GNR somersaults are all perfectly possible. Oh, all right, and WR lower quadrants if you really must.Simon

RE: Ideas (30026020)

Peoples drawing distances are set differently, Thats how I intend to do moving traffic on Oxford Street for my bus route that it being experimented with here. (I have given away too much haven't I? )The drawing distances must be standard so I am probably ging to do 3 types (LD 200m, MD 400m, HD 600m...)Anyway I know how the technique works I have already used it in my DLR route for signalling! (which you should have by now ...)

Actually if the object isn't longer than 25m or so, multiple objects for different drawing distances are not neccesary. For the Red Line, many stations extend well beyond the -25m, one even beyond the -250m Z distance, so I am merely going to recommend that you set your drawing distance to 400m or greater while driving the route, though in most situations problems such as objects appearing before your eyes are generally hidden by something.EDIT: And to answer your original question, ferriviopathe developed the loop route, see his website for contact details.Tim Frost

Well, simon. that puts my own east lincs semaphores I made in the winter to shame!! By the way, they're not quite finished, but they're GN concrete post types. I knew a way of animating the semaphores, but it wouldn't have been very good, and hopefully mackoy will introduce support for .Gifs in the future anyway. much better.

RE: Ideas (30026020)

Even not very good animation is more fun than no animation, as you crawl up to the home signal, hoot at the bobby (must build suitable box), accelerate over the level crossing (ditto) and tackle the bank from an almost standing start. Must build the rest of the line...Do keep on with the signals, TomBoy - I had a go at a GN concrete post and wasn't a great success. Am tempted by somersaults though. Are you still working on East Lincs? I seem to recall reading that you'd lost the files in a fairly terminal fashion. I hope it ain't so - a 30mph burn to Louth with a 31 and a mammoth train of grain hoppers (two or even three) would be almost as exciting as Emma Pierson. Ok, not quite...

the grain hoppers where at first hauled by the class 08s but they changed to a 31 or 37 or sometimes a 20. it was booked for no less than 90 minuites to travel the 14 miles, the linespeed indeed being 30mph after 1970. We did have a GN somersault at the east lincs until about 1999, which i could have used for a photorealistic texture, but someone decided to shoot the spectacle plate with an air rifle, prompting it's return to it's owner. I've lost the ECML route file, and i decided to start again with the east lincs, because i started it as i was learning to code, and the coding is so bad, that it would have been easier to start from scratch. it was about %50 done, but i'm having to rebuild some of the objects again. the ELR file itself is 47 hauled, as was the norm. i'm hopefully going to include the 9F freeobject i've begun work on! And as for emma..... she is now the texture backdrop on my testroute. so when i'm coding objects and things.. if i get bored or dissilusioned, i can look up at her staring down at me saying 'tom: stop slacking....'
</WAFFLE>
ps
you've actually just given me an idea: after the route closed to passengers, the train had to stop at every crossing as they where TMO. hows about slowing to a crawl at each ccrossing, then having animated crossing gates? it would be the most boring BVE file ever but stil.....

elsewhere)BTW Perhaps you and Simon should get together his signals
looked like extremly good.. In fact I wonder if he's working
on a suprise of his own!..Oh and BTW British Semaphores could easily be adpated to
Japanese Semaphores (IIRC they share simmilar charcteristics?)In fact on Jpanese route I thought I was in the Fens somewhere! :-D

the east lincs ran from grimsby to boston- peterborough . it's often confused with the east lancs. the lincolnshire wolds railway currently has it's base at ludborough about half way between grimsby and louth. it closed between louth-boston in 1970 (the spalding -peterborough section reopened in 1971). the line was singled, it's sole purpose being to serve the maltings at louth. the line closed in 1980.

Well, under the watchful eye of Emma here is a brief summary of my activities over the last 24 hours (i'm supposed to revise for my crucial exams next week)
I decided to abandon the method i had been using to build my MKIV stock, and went for a different approach, that not only saved on coding, but also looked alot better too.
I finished off building Colton junction. the leeds lines carry on straight while our line takes a gentle curve to the left with a diverging speed of 125mph!
I was up till 4 rebuilding my 75m MK3 catnerery. i mangaged to build both sets of wires for both directions of zig zag including sag of course. my flatmates came back from the nightclub and i was still pottering away...
I also have been re-distancing some landmarks on the route out of york (a typo lead me to put some junctions as far as 1.8km in the wrong place!)
I built the canopy for the platforms at york and then made the return conductors. i have to re-do the bitmaps as they got squashed.
