Hi all.Its Alex farlie talking..
(You know the on that pops-up to suggest crazy ideas..)I note with interest that Moorfield-Westport has increased
the connectivity of fictional routes so I came up with the
following idea..If all the relevant authours agree would not be an idea
now that BVE 2.5 has somewhat extended object limts to consider
the porduction of a joint Long distance IC route to try and
prove it could be done.A Very rough route idea is froming in my head at present..London Hulcot Park->Bays Field
*Bays Field->Moorfield
Moorfield->Hammewrwich
Hammerwich->Wood-Green
*Wood Green->Peak Forest
*Peak Forest->Shireford
*Shireford-> Northminster
*Northminster-> Stamford Central (Calling at Northenville Parkway)
*Stamford Central-> Cragbeck Junction
*Cragbeck Junction-> Drumlaing South
*Drumlaing South-> Cathcart(King Street)
*Cathcart(King Street)->Sandymill.
Sandymill->Invermay..

(*new routes...)Of course the eventual aim is to have a North-South route
all the way from Treston Park but that would need to go
via an intermediate station like Hulcot Fields
owing to the traction changes required..Any takers on this idea?It would mean complete re-writes of all the ficitonal routes
choosen for inclusion in order that there be a consistent
standard across the whole route...Whoever said the Great Central was dead.. :-PAlex

LOL More like the Massive Central I have always said that more connectivity is cool, but I don't think many routes will be completely rewritten to achieve it, for now the ones that do join up show a great amount of care taken with integration, etc. so on the whole let there be more linkage and the track crews sort themselves out CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

And with RouteBuilder out now, someone could put these ideas together much quicker than before.Not that I don't have route dreams of my own of course.

The problem(?) there is RB won't import existing routefiles, so the connecting part made in RB will just 'feel' different to the hand-coded adjoining sections, IMHO ... but what the hell do I know about route building anyway Saxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

Something i've always wanted to try:
if you want to alter the distances in a CSV route file, would loading it into excel make the distance appear in an isolated column, and adding or subtracting certain values would have the effect of altering distances to fit with new additions?
I don't have excel right now, so that's something for someone to tell me...

Yes Tom,Excel can be made to virtually sit up and dance if you're good enough (which I'm not) but all you need to do is work out the conversion factor/scale ratio/whatever, write that as a formula somewhere in the sheet then apply it to all the cells in the first column (the distance values) to get your new figures.CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

Another bright idea, Alex. The full route is as follows:Blighton to London Treston Park Low Level (SR)
London Treston Park Low Level to London Hulcot Park (Thameslink 2000)
London Hulcot Park->Bays Field (Midland Mainline)
*Bays Field->Moorfield (Centro)
Moorfield->Hammerwich (Centro)
Hammerwich->Wood-Green (Centro)
*Wood Green->Peak Forest (Centro)
*Peak Forest->Shireford (Northern Spirit)
*Shireford-> Northminster (Northern Spirit)
*Northminster-> Stamford Central (Calling at Northenville Parkway)
(Northern Spirit)
*Stamford Central-> Cragbeck Junction (Northern Spirit)
*Cragbeck Junction-> Drumlaing South (Northern Spirit)
*Drumlaing South-> Cathcart(King Street) (Scotrail)
*Cathcart(King Street)->Sandymill. (Scotrail)
Sandymill->Invermay.(Scotrail).We can have fast for whole route, semi-fast in sections, local services in sections.The route, after completion will be called the UK Fictional Railway

You could tie in with 60's BL at Northernville Central, too. By the time you get round to there 60's BL will probarbly be out.P.S. When 60's BL is finished I wouldn't mind tackling Northminster -> Stamford Central myself .--

>Railway I have my own thoughts..The whole North-South route will be the 'Massive Central'
as Wulf jokingly sugested..As it's fictional I see no reason why there can't also be fictional
TOC's (saves claims of infringment and encounters with the Network
'Riech' anti-photo enforcers as well<3>)I hadn't Included Blghton as from the look of it it's a coastway
route not a typical IC (but no harm in having the connecting service!)Anyhow here's how it maps out..(I'm putting some notes in as well)Treston Park LL-> London Hulcot Park
(Suggsted TOC: Thameslink - Fictional TOC: Meridan)
(This section is essentialy the Brighton-London mainline.)Hulcot Park is essentially Paddington or Marylebone
although St Pancras is a nice idea..London Hulcot Park->Bays Field
(Suggested TOC: Thameslink/Midland Mainline or Chiltern
Fictional TOC: Midline(IC) /Chiltern Great Central(Commuter/local)
(NB This is based on scenery in the routes concerned..
I'd put Bays Field on a distance with Tring or Aylesbury.
(Chainging the 158's at Bays Field for 365/165/166's)*Bays Field->Moorfield
(Suggested TOC CHiltern-Centro
Fictional TOC: Chiltern Great Central/Midline(IC) /RAWM<1>)(Essentialy the old Great Central route in charcter.
Note CGC trains run through onto the Hammerwich
line but leave for a seperate terminus at Heath Street
Somewhere in the WM area..)Moorfield->Hammerwich (
(Suggested TOC: Centro
Fictional TOC: RAWM/ CGC/ Midline)
( As it is at the moment- Minor varation is the additon of
a line to allow the possble bypassing of Moorfield by
some express services (not marker in route)
and of course the junction to allow CGC into Heath Street.)Hammerwich->Wood-Green
Suggested TOC: Centro
Fictional TOC: MIdline/Rawm/ CERT (Central England Rail Trains.. No major change needed really
except perhaps to the context notes
and the reworking of the 'seaside'
section into an artifical lake used for
water storage purposes?NB. Plot point : IF used CERT had an advertising
ploy sying they were a Dead Cert for getting into
Hammerwich.. It backfired when some of
thier stock broke down 6 times in a fortnight!!*Wood Green->Peak Forest
Suggested TOC :Centro/Central
Fictional TOC: Midline/CERT Idea is that Peak Forest is somwehere in the Peak District
so it might be a slog up some the hills but it's still the
mainline so not to gruelling .*Peak Forest->Shireford
Suggested Toc: Northern Spirit
Fictional TOC: Midline/ Northstar.Nice touch picking up on the Buxton/Matlock split BtW
*Shireford-> Northminster
Suggsted TOC: Northen Spirit
Fictional TOC: Midline/ NorthstarNotes mailine but theres plenty of
branches as the train runs through
industrialised Yorkshire..
There might also be some industrial traffic on the lines.*Northminster-> Stamford Central (Calling at Northenville Parkway)
Suggested TOC: Northern Spirit
Fictional TOC: Midline/GN&SR<2>(IC) /NorthstarSame notes as above but note that Stamford is a new town
so the development will look different to that elsewhere
on the route.. NB Stamford Central is also slightly bigger
then you might expect as it's a transport hub.
GN&SR Is included but it's trains only appear on one side of
the station at Stamford Central.
*Stamford Central-> Cragbeck Junction
Suggested TOC: Northern Spirit.
Fictional TOC: Midline/NorthstarWell I had to get a Settle-Carlise type section in somehow
Cragbeck Junction is high up in the hills and the turntable has been
known to spin by itslef as the windw blow down from the hills..This section also needs a LONG viaduct..*Cragbeck Junction-> Drumlaing South
Suggested TOC: Northern Spirit
Ficitional TOC: Midline/GN&SR/Northstar/Scottish Caledonia.Essentially the line descends from the hills down into
Carlisle(which I'm inlcuding on the basis that so many
lines went through it at one point it plausibel to have
it in a fictional route.)From Carlisle the mianline climbs and is express until
reaching Drumlaing South on the Stratchclyde border.
Local Trains Maybe splitting the route at Carlisle is a better idea
as then you can run Northstar into Carlise and Scottish
Caledonia out to the North.
Note that the GN&SR services rejoin at Drumlaing South..*Drumlaing South-> Cathcart(King Street)
Suggested TOC: Scotrail
Ficitonal TOC:Mianline but there are also suburban electrics
heading into King Street (which is essentialy
in Glasgow but with a minor varation to allow
a through platform if anyones intrested otherwise
trains have to reverse.*Cathcart(King Street)->Sandymill.
Suggested TOC: Scotrail
Ficitonal TOC: Midline/GN&SR/Scottish Caledonia.Electrified Mainline + Surburban services..Suggested TOC: Scotrail
Ficitonal TOC: GN&SR/Scottish Caledonia.(Note the Midline service used to terminate
at King Street. A special arrangment was made
between GN&SR and Midline to provide alternate
services to Invermay beyond there..
The GN&SR route back to London isn't via the Massive Central.Sandymill->Invermay.(Scotrail).
Suggested TOC: Scotrail
Fictional TOC: Caledonia Sandymill.You already konw this route far too well! :-P )
The aim is to provide a backnone route that could be
used for all mannor of other ficitonal ideas with
some degree of co-operation in respect of long-distance
routes..BTW Some runs that should be in the Scenario are
- Treston Park -> Invermay (IC Cross Country)
- Hulcott Park -> INvermay (IC)
- Southport Interfrieght->Cricklesden Yards->
Inverymay Yards (FrieghtLiner)
- 'Highland Sunrise' Mail Express.. Leaves Blighton mid-evening
to arrive in the Highlands for the early morning post.
(I'd recomend doing this as a winter route though as there
can be some consitency of darkness so to speak.)Comments, (or of course construction tenders :-P )Ideally rout section should push the envelope (but not
to the X-city extent) in that AWS is continuos across
the route. GLX and weather also play a role..Its not nessacrily going to be sunny all the way from
Treston Park to Inverymay!I'd really like to get this start so if someones perapared
to help co-ordinate LMK..I'm not really wanting to get deeply involved on the coding
side as I have other things like the Beck I'd like to work on.Alex

Yes, but given the scenario it would need an almost complete
rewrite of one end of the route as the scenrey suggests
an urbanised context as opposed to the countryside secenry
at the Bays Field end.Drive the Bay Park route and I feel you would be inclined
to agree with me.In either case it will involve a re-write of that section
of the Massive Central in order to accomodate the
frieght yards at Cricklesden.Are you intending to bid for the construction work tom ?

(ie more like the scenery at the Hulcot Park end is at the moment.)Don't forget about the Circklesden Freight yards and
the spurs coming in from the Chelsea Extension Railway tracks
(which is how Meridan services get access if they don't
go via Bays Field LL Subsurface) Mail me if intrested further... I assume Sacha D has
