HiI've just read something intresting in a 'professional' journal called PE-Professional Engineering (21st May edition)Apparently Hull is looking to build a light rail type scheme to improve local transport links. One of the compnaies pushing forward a schems is called SkyTrain/Sky Rail-(unconnected with the conviental SkyTrain in Vancouver,BC presumably.)Acoording to the article '.. The sky train technology would use conventional light rail cabs and steel wheels hung from an overhead duct. The Overhead duct would feature power rails ,power contacts strips, signals and autmoation controls. The duct would be large enough to accomodate standard gauge bogies with the tractions components installed inside in order to protect them from adverse wheather conditions.SkyTrain said that the system would us standard rail components but would be less obtrusive and less expensive then gorund based rail systems...'Anyone intrested in producing a vison of what cuch a scheme could look like in BVE?(BTW Wulf is this OT you know what to do.)Alex
A kind of upside-down train then... hmm, interesting CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve
Er, Alex, sorry, but are you sure there wasn't a note to say the item had been held over from the 1/4/03 issue? Or did you put the thread here to see how long it would take? The idea sounds rather like the present system in Wuppertal, and no-one can call that unobtrusive. Maybe, if the article is true, you have uncovered another use for BVE - show it like it will be. Let someone take up Wulf's idea and code a route with the track and overhead transposed. No, I can't go on. As the Aussies say, you are having a lend of us, aren't you?

There was no note in the article to say it was held over from April 1st,BTW I was thinking that as well I suspect it is is indeed like the Wuppertal system.Of course bearing mind that the article comments were presuambly taken from a release put out by Sky Train at some point which are likley to have some bias in order to get people to buy the technology! (The portion qouted did inlcude a 'SkyTrain said..')Perosnally if an idea like this can be demonstrated in BVE it would be an excellent oppurtunity to take up.I think there was at one point somone working on the Wuppertal for Bve but decided to do it in MSTS instead :')Alex
OK - I wasn't doubting you personally and it seems your scepticism is akin to mine.Any further view on this would be political and rightly subject to deletion by the moderators so for my part now I'll let this one rest, although I would be very interested if someone created a sample route. And add a 'thank you' for spotting the article and reporting it.
>Perosnally if an idea like this >can be demonstrated in >BVE it would be an excellent >oppurtunity to take up.Go for it mate! If you are after route building guides I think BVE Helper (http://members.aol.com/bvehelper) has some, and there are lots of guides for building trains, I recomend Shaun Myers guide, available from Wulf_9's website! And of course there is route builder.........
>I think there was at one point somone working on the >Wuppertal >for Bve but decided to do it in MSTS instead :') Is the Wuppertal the trains which are orange and blue and have a red square in front of the train?
------My favourite LUL train------ HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore. It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.
OK Alex: I love your challenges. Here is what it might look like. BTW if some wants the rail object and a narrow version for a private right of way, send me a PM. Now we need an underslung LRV. This exists as about a 1 km piece of another project.
