POLL: Will you refuse to download and drive a route if it does not comply with the standards of BVE 2.3.1? Posted by Tim Frost on May-26-03, 08:51 AM EDT
The Red Line has quickly exceeded the number of allowable railtypes by BVE 2.3.1 (64) and in order to make this the best route it can be, I will use approximately 100-125.Due to the nature of the objects I have run out of available slots for, I do not anticipate being able to make a backwards compatible route. I'm curious to see how many people will become instantly uninterested due to this fact alone.I hope this doesn't sound arrogant but:I apologize to those who will not upgrade to BVE 2.5... as I hope for this to be up there with the best of BVE routes.Tim Frost NVTA Subway routes for BVE: http://nvta.co.uk

I have 30 slots taken up by smooth curves. Keep in mind that eight of these slots are taken up by four railtypes so that the correct sound is made as the train travels over it. There are five slots taken up by objects that are not rails because it doesn't make sense to place them any other way: they won't work as walls, dikes, or poles, and they are placed far too many times in the route to be used as freeobjects.Because the route uses third rail as well as OHLE, there are many different railtypes for each (third rail left, third rail right, and with ohle in tunnel, outside, bridge, bridge joint for drawbridges, and several railtypes must be duplicated to create different sounds as the train crosses them). Not to mention the objects that I either place every 25m or use as rails... such as roads, a certain bridge trestle, etc... etc...Maybe it makes a bit more sense now? We are currently reworking the export process of RouteBuilder for version 1.1. Maybe we stop using the BVE secondary tracks, building all but the track you drive on from freeobjects. This will of course only work with BVE 2.5 if a route has many secondary tracks. But we found it far easier and faster to create appropriate route files using freeobjects instead of rail commands. Look here:Except for the straight primary track, everything is freeobjects.Uwe
I would not down load it!I don't like 2.5 I had problems with controls on some of my train sets because of braking. On my oldest system which run 2.3 fine 2.5 cause fram rates to drop. My older RW lines don't work because of the change in tracks and stations and tired of cut and pasting routes together.etjason

This will of course only work with BVE 2.5 Uwe, will you still use the current point and connection process to lay the tracks or will the user be forced to use that only for the primary route? I'm real big on laying a complex trackset on the first pass, then going back and changing the primary route before subsequent exports to create a variety of routes for the same track set. Christopher
And if the curve radius is greater than 3000m, you can use the straight railtype since it wouldn't be very noticable. If you have a 500m curve and a 510m, they can use the same rail object.

I use very few curve radii, and they are all pretty standard, rounded to the nearest 100 or 50m. I also use no curves over 1500m radii until 3000, at which point I don't need smooth curve objects.I can't place some objects as dikes or walls because dikes and walls must be indexed to rails. In some cases I can use a null rail and place objects with dike or wall commands but not all.Tim Frost NVTA Subway routes for BVE: http://nvta.co.uk

Tim, BVE is so small compared to MSTS and other train simulators that I don't understand why those people who prefer the earlier version don't run both? I wouldn't worry about it, release it for BVE 2.5. Christopher
I'd go for the latter, people with 2.3.1 can always run paralell.Re that "route builder" comment, FREEOBJECTS FOR RAILS?! The loading times will be worse than the picc!-- Tom Beevers http://brj.rr.nu
It is possible to write a route with 2.3.1, with smooth rails, switches, and many freeobjects. See Loop's file. But, when I writen Moorland Junction, it was quite difficult to build a good track map of 11 tracks with only 8 rails (0 to 7). That why I think now, with 2.5, new routes will be very very more easy to create.
