HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore.
It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.

RE: Question

No! you should not be able to hold a beta of someones work if it was not sent to you. And if was, most people know that it should not be reissued and should be erased. That's why some some betas for "paid" software are set to become inactive after a certain time. When I beta test MSTS and Office they shut down after the date on the paperwork that came with it and could not be reset. I am Beta testing for AOL and each new version shuts down after logon forceing you to dump it.Now the main question is this. Are you saying you beta tested someones route with their permission and want to send it out to otheres in clear violation of terms, or do you want to blackmail someone with a route you should not have. If you have something thats not to be made public and it states so, why are you asking.Jason

Right Wulf, arrived, unpacked, and it's already running dangerously low on rat smell oil, as soon as I opened this thread it drained .If you mean sending a beta of your own route to testers without object authour's permission than yes, that's OK IIRC.--

RE: Question

Right I think i didnt explain the question in enough detail! Right i have a route i coded but it has work of author authors in it. Is it ok to hold a private beta for this route to be tested, and should i give these people whose objects i have used the opportunity to do this

I would consider it basic good manners to let those whose work is the basis for yours try it first, before releasing to anyone else. Following that, private betas are Ok provided the sfx installer is set up to mention this, and displays a warning that the file is not for distribution. This means whoever you send it to should keep it to themselves, hence you have control over the beta-test process. Any permissions and corrections should be implemented at this time before allowing any more copies to be released. To be absolutely certain, simply use WinRAR's 'password' feature to lock the archive, then if the file 'escapes' no-one else will be able to open it except those you give the password to.CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

I think you need to clear it up one more time. Are you coding a route with the authors permission example an extension or fixing up his line. Or are you making your own extension and fixing up his line.Because if you have seeked permission to do this and given the ok then you can beta test it. If you are doing it on your own then No!. you have to get permission first. And it would be in yours and theirs best interest to send it to them first to get the ok before beta. They may say no they may say yes. Again if you are coding a route even with the first authors permission you still have to get permission from the people who's objects you are reusing to give the ok. They may have oked the first work for private reason (school buds, Paying of a debt. etc.)And may not extend the same rights to you. Maybe they want to pull an object from use from the public reuse because of overuse or misuse. The worst advice you want to hear right now is the best advice and that is, Stop what you are doing and not put anything out till you contact all these people first. A simple courtesy e-mail makes all the difference. It makes everyone feel better (not bad, as somepeople....) and it's your proof in writting that you have the ok to go on.(Fair Business pratice)Jason
