LAST EDITED ON May-25-03 AT 03:19 PM (EDT)

only 2 complains speedometer:
no very readable aroud 50 m/h(glow) may I suggest this
alternatives images ?
and is it accurate ?
I get overspeeds in route:
Southern Blighton-Treston Park 2\1980s\semifast
And a question,
what are the suitable routes for this cl101?

I agree with both remarks:1. The reflections on the speedometer's glass cover do not make it's indications that clear...2. I think the speedometer is about 20-25% slow. I have tested the train in Loop route and although the train never exceeded the speed of 60 miles (40-60 mainly) I could easily keep the schedule and in most cases arrived 15-30 secs earlier than the schedule. I guess that after 20 miles indication (accurate I think), the 30 miles indication is about 40 miles real speed and then the 40 miles indication is about 60 miles real speed.
Question: since Im not familiar with these old British DMUs, is it correct that no compressor or air release sounds from the brakes are heard?Smile2evan

HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore.
It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.

RE: BR Class 101 DMU v 2.0 Now Available

Hi Gang!!I've got David's version of the Class 101, but it's a bugger to drive in BVE 2.5 due to the brakes. Basically, it's supposed to have three brake positions but, in BVE 2.5, it's only got one. This makes stopping on the mark virtually impossible. It's a lovely machine to drive, but really infuriating.Any ideas...?Technical NumptyBR Class 101 DMU v 2.0 Now Available – image 8

Hi Numpty,The solution is to use Bve 2.3.1 (203011) to regain 3-step air, which will also give the PO position, lots of trains (including mine) make use of this now-missing feature However the 256 object limit applies...CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

>This makes stopping on the mark virtually impossible. It's a lovely >machine to drive, but really infuriating.>Any ideas...?yes,if you are a good general joystick and a muscle PC
your can use my program joy4bve who ease
a little, air brake in bve 2.4x or 2.5x.
http://joy4bve.sourceforge.netAnyway this cl101bveig have big delays in brake react.

or you can change air brake to Electro Pneumatic Brakes:go to bve train directory and
make a backup or copy of cl101bveig directory
then enter in original cl101bveig directory
put explorer in window size
open notepad put in windows size
the drag and drop "train.dat" fron explorer to notepad
replace section brake and handle with this ones:
then save. #BRAKE
0
0
0#HANDLE
0
4
3
0
don't use save as (no needed because drag and drop make notepad open as dat extension)
if you have trouble with notepad save look this topic:
http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID17/147.htmlthis will do a dirty trick
and you will get a three steep pneumatic brake

BR class 101's were fitted with the dual pipe vacuum brake systen. So no brake compressor. When then brake was in apply position an inrush of air could be heard, when in release, lap or running - nothing. The vacuum two pipe system worked in a similar fashion to the air twin pipe system. The red brake pipe worked the train brake at normal vacuum, the blue pipe was at a higher vacuum and when release was selected, connected to the red pipe to give a faster release. Because of the high vacuum pipe, the first generation dmu's were not popular with shunters.

I have just driven David White's cl 101 and it sounds and runs so nicely. I repeat that I am not familiar at all with these old BR DMUs but as a simple BVE driver I liked it a lot... Stoopid thank you for the information... Smile2evan.

RE: BR Class 101 DMU v 2.0 Now Available

Slight over simplification in my earlier post about the dual pipe vacuum system. Vacuum release chambers and valves are also involved. Been a long time since I've been near a 1st gen DMU, had to go and look at the manual. If anyone is interested in a full description give me a shout These units could stop very quickly, but care had to be taken particularly when the speed dropped right down or they would slide. Like the BVE versions, although to me they don't quite capture the nature of the beast. Not least because they don't capture the horrendous vibration of the origionals.
