Ok so we've seen a monorail/Maglev and various other railways in BVE.However Smace took up one of the more unusal route ideas and
is definlt ynow working on it..
BC ing it in the near future No 6. BC ing it.
BTW What would the railway station in Portmerion look like?
(I seem to recall it might be somewhat scaled down Itailinate,
so maybe the railway from Portmerion is also Italinate in 2ft
Guage track?)Of course the Prisoner Connection might prove intresting to
potray... Be Seeing you..
Suggestions for some unsual routes I currently have are..
Martian Canals..
Heavy Cola (water rapids ride)
Swan Lake. (water dark ride)and many others..If anyone is looking for an idea to practicse
their skills with I am sure I can suggest something.Whilst I know Anthony Bowden is busy on the X-City
at present theres nothing to stop him doing one
of the Canals in Birmingham when it's finished..Don't be limited by BVE being a 'train-sim'
Think of it as a Guided Track sim and theres
plenty of ideas you can have..You could even ride the winning horse in the
Derby if you were willing to model a racecourse
built with modifed scaleextric elements.Still nor Hornby/Marklin/Lionel routes yet though :')Alex

RE: Ideas....

>what's that? 100m radius curves n' all? ??? I can't find the 100m radius in the original post. But 100m radius curves can be done...

HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore.
It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.

RE: Ideas....

Canals, huh? Nice idea - remember though the top allowed speed is 4mph so your scenery had better be exquisite. And I've no doubt someone will manage it such is the level of talent in BVE development.
Are locks a real problem? How about a forced stop (can it be done?) to simulate closing the gates behind you, then a slow move forward say, er, 25 metres, down or uphill to move up or down the necessary distance. At a pinch the developer could use the 'disappearing' feature to 'open' the gates when the height change move is completed. Just move forward enough to touch the gates and, Hey, Presto! (Or, if you prefer, 'open sesame'.) Not exactly approved procedure on the canals but, well, it's all compromise, isn't it?
It's OK to burst out of the envelope but have we explored all the rail options? We have trams - how about an Americal style interurban with (big and heavy but essentially) trams/streetcars running at speeds in the 80s and more? Usually, too, with an interesting mix of countryside and in-your-face urban scenery.
Rollercoasters/big dippers? BVE has some limitations but if sharp curves are possible why not really serious changes of gradient? From what I've seem by using the 'blimp' on some routes, a big dipper woud really show how through a developer is with his objects. (As an aside, I notice several UK train objects have extra ventilation with a 2ft hole in the roof, while certain coal hopper wagons are 'back and one side' only. But that is immaterial for when driving a route properly, that is, in a train, these things are not visible.)
A fairground 'ghost train' - sharp curves and opportunities for some really clever manipulation of BVE's capabilities - see the changing semaphores on SR V2 and the disappearing kids in NETram for examples.
We have the Somerset and Dorset and GCR in the UK as steam lines and the excellent and delightful Kurrajong and Camden branches in Australia, how about more UK steam in the form of the Ravenglass and Eskdale or Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch, two of several serious small-gauge railways in the UK?
Just the odd random thought.

In an earlier post, some one mentioned an idea, so maybe.>At a pinch the developer
>could use the 'disappearing' feature to 'open' the gates
>when the height change move is completed. Just move forward
>enough to touch the gates and... I have played with this, and at slow speeds it just may work, add a gradual increase in the ground level while you move forward and the water might just rise or fall.
I took Alex up on a couple of his suggestions, and all that you mention can be done. I built some test samples of thesefor my use and they work and actually look good. Not for public release, they are learning tools and are far from up to standards, but these can in fact be done.
The limits on what can be done are not, for the most part, in BVE. The only limits are the talent and imagination ( and time) of the developers. This should be a very good summer for releases.

What I would like to see is more historic routes. I believe that the present day ones are all well & good, but how about something more from the heady days of steam?
That's one of the reasons I am making Plymouth to St Austell in GWR Broad Gauge, GWR, late BR and modern versions.Chris Leeshttp://bvecornwall.cjb.net -BVE Cornwall: Providing QUALITY Steam for BVE!
