at Vince Black's website: http://www.vince-black.me.cz
Vince is also considering making this BVE4 version available for download.Luigi Cartello,
You should find this BVE4 version
much more operable than the BVE2 version
on your Genoa-Campi route as it has been 'tuned' for more power,
though be sure to allow brake & boiler pressure
to rebuild at each station stop or
you may be loose the brakes on the steep grades
or be stuck between stations without power!

that you may have & I'll see what I can do.How about a swap?
I'll build 2 or 3 BVE4 locomotives/trains for you
if you can build a Colorado Denver-Leadville-Gunnison route for me!

RE: New Train For BVE4 !!

A tall order on both counts, but I'll see what I can do. The Third Ave El is going to take me quite awhile and I don't know off-hand where to get the loco info, but never say die! I'll do some digging.

RE: New Train For BVE4 !!

If you want to see where BVE is headed download this and the Scotsman locomotive anounced in another thread. Run them on a BVE 4 route, I used the German narrow gauge for this and Maybank for the other. These are great starts to show what the plugin and BVE 4 can be.

Thanks, though I'm proudest of the boiler & tank sight gauges
with the ecccentric "needles" to simulate changing water levels.

RE: New Train For BVE4 !!

One thing that I'd like to add:
a working whistle that has a blast of steam & pull chain/handle that moves as the whistle is sounded. Does anyone have an idea how to do this?

There are several good websites that document the history of Colorado's old SouthPark narrow gauge
from the beginning in the 1870s to the end in the 1930s.
Makes for some interesting reading!
The SouthPark railroad was a seperate entity from the DenverRioGrande,
though it leased operating rights for the Leadville-BeunaVista section of track from the DRG for several years & several locomotives
where also leased from the DRG over its history.
The early history of the SouthPark line was quite colorful, being
originally built to service the boom/bust cycles of the gold & silver mines, & also being a pawn in the many questionable dealings of Jay Gould, the infamous WallStreet railroad tycoon.I have an extensive photo library of the locomotive roster, rolling stock, structures, etc, & I live in Bailey which is on the old Platte River canyon right-of-way a few miles east of Kenosha Pass; the track is long ago dismantled but much of the grand Rocky mountain scenery is fortunately little changed. A few choice structures & pieces of rolling stock still exist:
the old stone roundhouse at Como
Bakers water tank
the bunk house on Boreas Pass
telegraph office at Alpine tunnel
(the east tunnel portal is still visible if you're tough enough
for the high altitude climb though it is mostly covered
by cave in's/landslides)
a few of the stations
The engine & cars modeled for BVE still exist,
though much neglected & sitting on a siding inoperable,
at the tourist railroad in GeorgeTown. There is a very good topographical map website with altitude notations, on which you can actually trace the old railroad grade
the 200+ miles all the way from Denver Union Station to Gunnison if your interest & persistence holds up!If either or both of you are serious about writing a SouthPark route,
I can forward the 400+ MB of documents & photos that I have
& provide new scenery photos as needed
(some of the r-o-w is on private land with limited access).I envison a route as follows:
depart Denver UnionStation elevation 5280ft,
buffalo grazing amongst rolling foothills under snow capped peaks,
the engine struggles thru the rugged SouthPlatte canyon,
drop off several river trout fisherman at Deans station,
cinders fly in crisp fall air, gold leaves quake in groves of aspen,
over 10000ft KenoshaPass into the great SouthPark valley,
herds of elk & pronghorn occasionally cross the track,
add a helper engine from the Como roundhouse,
conquer the continental divide over 11500ft Boreas Pass,
a large brown bear & cub are spotted grazing on the high slope,
stop at Bakers Tank to quench the thristy engines,
on to the rich mining town of Leadville
with silver bullion stacked like cord wood on the station platform,
continuing via DRG track to BuenaVista on the Arkansas river,
thru the high Alpine tunnel & palisades,
a mountain lion sprints after a mule deer buck thru the trees,
arriving at Gunnison depot!

Denver to Como is good, but I think Nathrop to Baldwin is the best starting section. The scenery is spactacular!!!!

I'm now emailing you an old hand drawn SouthPark map
with mileage notations.
I'll also send you a map & pictures of the Gunnison yard that I have.

RE: New Train For BVE4 !!

If the leased DRG track from Leadville to BuenaVista is included,
the SouthPark line actual made a circle
(Como to Leadville to BuenaVista to Mathrop back to Como)
with the mainline extending from Como northeast to Denver,
and the Gunnison branch extending southwest from Nathrop.
The scenery along the north highline section of the circle
from Como to Leadville To BuenaVista To Nathrop is quite spectacular,
while the scenery along the southern section of the circle
from Como to Nathrop is rather dull in comparison. Here is an excellent SouthPark website:

RE: New Train For BVE4 !!

Your vision for the route is certainly inspiring.I love the west and have lived in various locations there. My favorite route is the Desert route by Steve Green.
To do the route myself in a style like my Blueridge route,I would want to spend time out there and take my own photos. If Al wants some assistance,I'd be happy to help where I can.You know a train is good when its worth building a route for!

RE: New Train For BVE4 !!

I'd be honored for either of you (or both) to build a SouthPark route.
I'm not a route programmer, but no doubt it will be a significant task, & will take quite an effort to do it right.I'll let you too discuss how you would like to approach the task;
I'll help answer questions as I can
& will gladly build several engines of your choice in trade. If the resulting route is comparible in quality to the Virginia route, it will be great!
