Hey,I've attempted to install BVE onto my laptop so I can play it when I'm on a train etc but I am having some problems. I had no problem installing the game onto my PC at home and I thought it would be fairly straight forward to do the same onto my laptop! However, when I click on BVE.exe to start the program nothing I get the BVE purple screen come up then nothing happens! The screen just dissapears and goes back to the desktop.I'm not too sure if this is a problem with my laptop or the way I have installed it. Please note my laptop is about 5 years old now and still runs on Windows 95.Many thanks for any suggestions and/or help.
> >... and still runs on Windows 95. >This can be the problem: I had a lot of difficulties to install it on Windows 98 1st edition and it run with strange and impredictable problems. On the same computer no problems under Windows XP.Luigi Cartello http://bve.altervista.org/ http://web.tiscali.it/lcartello/
Windows 95 uses the older versions of Visual Basic runtime routines, e.g. VBRun.dll, totally incompatible with BVE engine. You will need to install W98SE or newer ASAP. Rgds,
Is there anyway I can just copy the relevant files from my version of Windows ME from my desktop to my laptop?Does anyone know what the files needed are? Thanks for any suggestions again, and many many thanks for the advice already given.
With the very early versions of BVE 2 you could get away with just copying over files - I've even run it from a CD, but the newer versions of BVE 2 and up need to be installed. I don't recall which version marks the division, but BVE 2.1 ia a good starting place, if you can find it. -- Al--------------------- Alfred Barten, Editor Virtual Railroader
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where it might be possible to get version 2.1? I've found a few dead links on the net so far, and am beginning to give up hope!Does anyone have a copy of an earlier version they can email me?
I have BVE version 2.03.0008 here, but I think you cannot be able to run the newest routes with more than 4096 commands inside the route files, therefore you will always receive the error message 'subscript out of range' Just in case you want this older version, please post me at: joaocg@iconet.com.br
