RE: Class 313

The Class 313 & 314 sound similar to an extent. The 313 has a fan which effectivly whines when the set takes power. Your right about the sounds , they are a bit old but still , its there and it goes. Thats the main thing

RE: Class 313

Anthony Bowden saied he would update the 313 and 91 to full cab when the 313 and 91 appeared on BVEtrains. But I don't know now!

HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore.
It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.

With regards to the class 313. Actually, you can make it on your own by rearranging files. First, download the 314 and use the cab and sounds. Instead of using the CIG type of compressor heard on a 314, copy the LU 1995 train compressor over for both AC/DC version. For AC mode, use the class 319 AC run1.wav sound. This is the enhnaced AC hum heard when the train starts up and copy the loop.wav from the class 319 AC as well, this is the AC hum heard on the pantograph car whenever the pan is up. For DC, keep the class 314 sounds, they are very close to the 313, just modify the compressor. Hope the original programmers of the 314, LU1995 and 319 would not mind this.

Class 313 – image 2

Hi,Feel free to arrange this stuff for yourself, I have no problem with it. However, if you wanted to release it publicly, I'd appreciate it if you gave me a shout first.Just a couple of points though. The 314 (at least the one I released) doesn't have a CIG-type slow compressor, it already has the fast 314 compressor (quite similar to the Lt1995 one). AFAIK this sound should be the same for classes 313,314 and 315 (I'd presume the 507 and 508 too, but then I can't be certain). Also, the 314 also already has the AC hum included on startup, so you shouldn't need the files from the 319. (btw, I take it you meant motor1.wav instead of run1.wav here?)As Mark Milmine already kindly mentioned, the 313s also have a fan/blower type noise on startup, which the 314s don't have. The 313/314/315 cabs are slightly different in that the DRA is sometimes located somewhere else on the desk. I think some versions also have the square type of push button found on the 321s, and not the old style round ones. Some units also have very different speedo and pressure gauges. The cab from the original 313 (found at bvetrains.co.uk) shows the old style of gauge, while my 314 has the newer square type.Oh and just to go to the ultimate level of pickyness! Some 314s have electrical equipment by Brush, others are equipped with GEC. AFAIK, the 313/315s all had GEC motors, which do have a *slightly* different sound! The 314 I made is modelled more on a Brush 314.Hope this helps!DavidBVE in Glasgow:

Thanks for the verification and permission, David. Just checked last night on the 314 train and the modifications needed to convert to 313 are:DC version:
Use the 319 DC motor0.wav and motor1.wav. AC version:
Use the 319 AC motor1.wav, loop.wav.With regards to Mark Milmine mentioning that the 313s also have a fan/blower type noise on startup, that is actually the AC hum in AC mode, due to AC power input, as heard on the 314,315,317 and 319. The motor sound is as like the 314. The 314 have compressor similar to the Lt1995 already, this was verified last evening as well. However, the compressor sound is different for 315, 317, 455, 507 and 508, from the 314 and 313, they have CIG type of slow compressor.Cheers
Hongjian

With the following recemmendations mentioned earlier, I have managed to come out with the perfect 313 sounds, in both AC to DC mode.Appreciate if someone could design a full cab for the train.

RE: Class 313

Just a other question.
Did new BVE versions have changed sound level of locos or and routes ?
ej loco sound so high that you can hear running sound
etc...?

RE: Class 313

Class 313 – image 5

Well heres my two pence worth:The class 313 sounds totally different to a class 314, it has a very different whine as it leaves the station, this is particularly noticable in lines such as Moorgate, or as it accelerates through Gassworks Tunnel. I may get some class 313 sounds for anyone who wants to use them, with credit where due, of course I am currently in the motions of getting CIG run sounds, which I am going to re-do on Saturday! I'll keep an eye out for the 313 or 508 which is similar, I guess that last comment was a bit of a throw away, which would probably pose the question; does the 508 sound like a 313? Just to ask, does anyone know of the progress of the BVE Class 508 which was due to be released at some point in the not too distant future?Cheers,Nathan Whitington

RE: Class 313

My name has been mentioned so far so I thought I would reply. The 314 has a normal loop sound but when the 313 takes power there is a blower type noise as the unit is Dual Voltage (750v DC and 25kv AC). There is a difference in noises from them. The difference wouldn't suffice using sounds from the 319 as the 319 compared to a 313/314/315 is different totally. Best to look and listen to a 313 to tell the difference between the 314 which sounds correct. The reason for the blower is that DC motors tend to get hotter due to a direct current passing through the motors. The blower is there to cool the motors otherwise Silverlink & WAGN would have failed 313's all over the place as they would overheat and fail. Best thing to do is sample a 313 to see and hear the difference

RE: Class 313

Class 313 – image 6

Mark,The whine you hear would almost certainly be the gears if they are worn a bit. The Class 313 and 314 traction motors are force ventelated at about 110BHP (Brake Horse Power, 1BHP=746 watts)The class 3xx stock series all have series wound DC motors, either built by Brush or GEC. The class 507 and class 508 have this also.Appart from four class 455s, were controlled by a camshaft and resistances. Two of the four excluded from the above, are fitted with resonant choppers, from GEC and two with resonant choppers from Brush. All four are now converted to standard resistance contorol. The overall high pitched sound you are reffering to is because most of the "modern" trains are fitted with double helical gears, instead of single helical gears, which causes the high pitched whine you sometimes hear when the train starts.

Class 313 – image 7

I've just realised my mistake, the high pitched sound is not the "hum" you are reffering to, that is down to worn out gears, the sound of take off, is actually just the traction motors used. Obviously the GEC equipment is different in sound to the Brush type equipment used, however all, but the class 315, is controlled by resistances, however the class 315 has thyristor type control, which is a bit like a Gate Turn Off device.

RE: Class 313

Nathan , you obviously missed the point. I meant the fan noise heard on departure , I can hear the traction motors although it would be nice to hear it on BVE. I do know the difference between a traction motor sound and blower fans

</snip>Mark, I think you missed the point. The blower fans can't be heard from inside the train anyhow. But the point I was making was another sound heard from the 313 as it "takes off" and I'll try and get a recording for you all to listen to so that you know what im talking about, its just a suggestion for anyone who is undertaking the procedure of building a class 313 for BVE.Just as a point, if you can hear the blower fans from inside, you must have better hearing than dogs do..............which of course I'm not saying you don't.

Class 313 – image 9

LAST EDITED ON May-02-03 AT 08:30 PM (EDT)

There is a sound that can be heard by passengers in a 313 when it moves off that sounds like a fan, though it could be something different entirely! I assume its something to do with the dual voltage equipment, since the 315 doesn't make this sound when moving off.

RE: Class 313

Class 313 – image 10

LAST EDITED ON May-03-03 AT 03:50 AM (EDT)

OK, All the Class 3xx have series wound DC traction motors, appart from the class 323 obviously. However the Class 313, and the class 314 have resistance control, where as the class 315 traction motors are controlled by a sodlid state device called a thyristor. For the bennefit of those disfamiliar to electronics, a Thyristor is a semi-conductor device. It acts really like two diodes in a series circuit, however with the advent of a gate. In brief they are for higher voltage application, so where a drivers power handle would send a very small current through the gate, in directly, and this would turn on the thyristor device, allowing current into the traction motors. When the polarity of the voltage being applied to the gate is reversed, the thyristor turns itself off. This is usesful for controlling small amounts of current into the tractron motors, and would thus allow better control of the motors.Desperately trying to drag this back on topic, I am out today getting class 313 and 421 sounds. So if anyone wants to make a class 313, contact me at the end of the day and I'll pass over what I've got, providing a successful recording attempt is worth using.
