What you add: Scenery and sound. Your choice, theme and content unlimited.
=================================================================================================== Alex and I have been in conversation for about a year abut using BVE to create other tracked
systems than Passenger or freight rail. If you have followed what I have released, you will
find that I am interested in this use of BVE. Both Alex and I have had an interest in Theme park-
Amusement Park rides. I spent several summers when younger working at Walt Disney World and
have some personal experience with these. So with this framework, we decided to do a small contest. As indicated above, we have created a set of plain empty theme park rides:
1) A classic Dark Ride
2) A Swan Boat / water ride
3) A roller coaster, both steel and wood. A small note, both Trainz and MSTS have nice little
coasters, it is time for BVE to have one. Each is provided with the appropriate track and infrastructure. If you wish to work in routebuilder
instructions are provided. If you need more help contact me. The rides require sounds as do the
ride vehicles. Use your imagination and recorder wisely. The Darkride is a track running
through a building. It is essentially a specialized subway/underground. You pick a theme and
add the scenery "flats" and lighting. The one I remember from Disney is Mr. Toads Wild Ride.
A small technical note, the Dark ride is in a bilding with a small elevation. This allowed me
to use my preexisting narrow gauge track for the track base. The roof is transparent from the
top so that you can see your work from track builder. Uncomment the line in the roof face to
generate a solid roof if you want that. The water ride is just a Water filled channel running through a 100 meter wide shallow valley.
Swan boat rides are often just pleasant rides through nice landscapes and scenes. Sometimes
they are rides through a fantasy story line. Your choice. As an aside, this same system with a
wider channel, say 30 foot, is a canal boat ride. The third is a roller coaster, all gravity powered. Use the ride power to start then run by
gravity to the end. I like the wood coaster, Alex likes the modern ones. They are the same ride.
Smooth vertical curves are possible. I have released a spread sheet to do this. Also making
the ground wide enough to fill the world is a task. The wood coaster runs in BVE 4 and you should
do this at least once.

Another minor technical note. During development a ride control system was developed that used
classic BVE ATO that created automatic ride control. Release the brakes and the ride runs to the
end and stops with no input from you. There are two versions of the contest: limited, where you do not change the ride, just add your
scenery and sound. Unlimited, where you can make what ever you want and change anything.
The basic rides will be available at my web site http://home.cfl.rr.com/bvefl/ As you create
better versions of the ride, send me the link and I will post them. I do not have much space to
host these, but may be able to host a couple. In January of next year we will hold a poll to
see which rides are best liked. These have been tested with BVE 4 ( except for the steel coaster) and seem to give a better ride
and lighting control. Perhaps the new plugin can also enhance the experience.
What does this get us? Oh, nothing really except some fun. It also allows some beginners to make
something with out having to create a route. The beauty of this is that each ride can be the same
track plan, but different depending on the imagination of the decorator. The prize: The admiration and respect of your peers
What this gets us? Not much except some fun and learning. It also gives beginers something to
build from that does not require a full out effort.

Sounds like fun, doing a such a ride with BVE. But your contest page is a 404 for me (not really because you get a Yahoo-page, but the idea is the same). For really good coastersimulator check out www.nolimitscoaster.de, its not free but well worth the money (actually it is the cheapest of the coasterssim you have pay for). Try the demo first.

I would really like to see an Japanese interpertation of this, if someone wnats to announce in one of those forums.
