As a newcomer to BVE I am confused about where to put all the files. I have downloaded the Chashinai route and in the various zip files are the route, objects, sounds, trains and train sound files. Can someone tell me in abc language where to put what so that I can download and install files in the future without this confusion. One step at a time please,I would be very grateful. Thanks dabbie

RE: Files
Hi Dabbie,Most UK route and train downloads are packaged as a .exe file rather than a .zip and will self-install in all the correct places automatically. Each time you install a new add-on, it will ask where you want it to be saved. It's default setting should be C:\Program Files\BVE, which is where everything should be.I'm not familiar with the route you've downloaded, but it sounds from what you say that it isn't self-installing. It would help to know what you actually have there, as each section should be in it's own folder (e.g. objects, sounds, route, etc). It should just be a case of cutting and pasting.I'm not at my own PC at the moment, so I wouldn't want to give you duff advice because my memory's dodgy. Unless someone else gets there first, I'll try and come back to this tonight when I'm at home. Otherwise you could download a self-installing route and train, and copy what the installation program does. (I can recommend Cross-City South from http://www.railsimroutes.co.uk and the Class 323 from http://www.bvetrains.co.uk.)HTHTechnical Numpty

RE: Files
Hi Dabbie,Sincerest apologies. I'm afraid that I couldn't get to the PC last night due to Mrs Numpty and her blasted Masters dissertation. Will try again tonight.TN

Hi Dabbie,Right, I'm back at my own PC and Mrs Numpty is downstairs watching the telly, so I can now give you some pointers about where all the files should go.The screenie below shows the tree for where the BVE files should go. Within the folder C:\Program Files\BVE\ there are two folders called "Railway" and "Train" (the "switch" and "LU_Northern_Signals" folders are for other things that you won't require for the route you've downloaded). The "Railway" folder is further divided into "Object", "Route" and "Sound" folders, each contining a sub-folder for every route. It is into each of these sub-folders that that the relevant route, object and sound files should go.This screenie shows the "Train" folder. As you can see, it's a whole lot simpler with just a sub-folder for every train into which all the files go.It really is that simple. Hopefully the zipped files that you downloaded are already in folders and will just need copying and pasting into the relevant sub-folders within C:\Program Files\BVE\. You could also check to see if you've got an English "readme" file and see if there's any helpful information in there.Hope this helps.Technical Numpty
-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!----- Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it. Eh, where did my signature go? Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it. Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)! It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet. Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...
