LAST EDITED ON Apr-22-03 AT 12:44 PM (EDT)

Tom, mine are:

P2 Celeron 300mhz with 64 meg ram, SiS 6326 SVGA AGP 3D card with 8 megs vidram, 40x CD-Rom, 1.4 meg floppy and a 4 gb HD with 300 megs
free. I can run every route except Picadilly fine. His system
specs actually look good, so I'd guess it's the way he's got
BVE or WinXP configured. I'm running Win98 on FAT32 partition. Christopher

RE: loading routes

64 megas is no enough for some routes,
some routes eat 150 Megas or more ?when rendering
for store objets
so what happen when ram memory is out?
windows use virtual memory(hard disk)
(very slow) you should notice high disk activity,
when BVE seem no respond, is because is doing exactly
it says, rendering. (at least trying).
And there is no progress bar.
this topic has been discuted in old crotrainz forum
and I read about 10 minutes rendering and after
bve run well, perhap they have more memory
I don't remenber what routes
was good for low systems.
it 's a shame we could not access to archived
crotrainz forum it could be usefull sometime.

Sounds like your system is running out of memory. The best fix is to buy more RAM, the more the better, if you can afford to fill the slots, do it. Otherwise, try these :-1) Make sure your hard disk is clean, reboot and do Scandisk/Defrag to be sure.
2) Inspect and check the Virtual Memory setting and make sure it is set to be system-managed
3) Ensure your graphics drivers are up-to-date and you have DirectX 8.1 installed correctly. DO NOT install DX9 it's still not stable.Hope this helpsCiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

>Reccomend huge update, 64MB RAM and a 733MHz processor is a rather >bad spec. Which routes cause problems?I wouldn't usually do this, but I've seen you make that comment so many times, I think that is a very far fetched comment to make. Before my steam-driven 333mhz computer was inadequette for Trainz to run and the internet, I used to run BVE perfectly well. Tom not everyone has the money to be buying major computer parts, and other people may want to dircect their finannces elsewhere!!I think its the graphics card that is the main concern is it not?Just a tip to anyone with ATI Cards; If you're running a lower spec ATI card, its well worth downloading the drivers for the ATI All in Wonder Pro card from ATI's site, this seems to work wonders for BVE. I know Tim Frost had this trouble at the same time as I did, as we both had similar build PCs and quite obviously similar, if not the same graphics cards. Just to note that I have never had XP so those drivers I've only ever used on 98.

RE: loading routes

I would think the first, cheapest, and probably best overall thing you should do is add as much RAM as it can hold and you can afford. It really helped me alot.

RE: loading routes

I would also ask if his video card is a 3D-capable one. I did not see it mentioned, and at his processor class, it isn't a sure thing that his machine has one.---PCJ

RE: loading routes

Hmm Intresting considing I'm still running my P150 with 32 Meg ram, If you don't have the ram make your your C: is clear as possible because when it loads on my machine it makes the harddrve run hard therefore it must be using a lot of Virtual Ram at my guess. Windows will do this unless your altered your window setting limiting what it can use.I don't have any trouble with the Scotish routes, Run the 2 Sandymill and the 2 Edinburgh ones often. I also load NetTram, Linie 10, Southern Version 1 and many others with no trouble. hope this helpsP.S. Hopefully in 6 Mnths I will be able to afford my Upgrade P1.3G 256 Meg ram, Gforge Video and 5.1 sound system, going to get a bigger hard disk than mu 10 Gig too. Have a program written in Turbo Pascal 7 that has been patched to run upto 2.0 Gig Processer so thats my limit.
Tom
