Richard,One or two posts must indeed have been 'caught in the crossfire', well not to worry If you would like to visit SLW and look at the very bottom of the page (after having a look at the trains of course ;o ) there are some link banners to most of the best Bve sites where you can get gallons of routes, trains and other goodies. Believe me you are going to be one busy little bee at the contols before long I can put a few screenies here for you if you like, gimme a mo to find one....p.s. 'falling out of a window' = defenestrated = kicked and binned CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

Thanks Wulf_9!I'll head over to SLW! I've already had fun driving a train and especially liked the movement of the train and the sound. It's almost as if you're driving for real. Ps. Falling like as in falling! Pps. At first I thought I heard a Spitfire as I entered your site! Which engine is that??

Best regards,
Richard.

Ahhh, I am glad you asked Did you not see a little scolling text doodah at the bottom of your bowser window? It describes the sound Anyway, yes, a Deltic indeed, the mighty Napier D18-25 is the engine you can hear, originally designed as a marine engine for the Admiralty to use in MTB's, where high power, light weight and compact design layout were essential. The Deltic locos are fitted with two of these, giving a total engine output of 3300 hp. The acceleration you feel as it picks up speed is the railway equivalent of a kick up the arse The actual loco in the clip is in full health and mainline certified, owned and lovingly cared for by a highly competent preservation society, along with a sister loco which is the one in my avatar pic and the Deltic Bve model at SLW. Of the original 22 built, only 6 still survive, and of those, 4 are running and have mainline certificates, one is being certified for this summer's workings, and the final one is being externally refurbished.CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

Not really like a Spitfire at all The Spitfire motor was the awesome RR Merlin, 27 litres of supercharged V12 fury. The Deltic is not only a diesel, it is the only one of its type ever to go into regular service with such an unusual (for those days in the 60's when they were being tried out) engine configuration. Imagine a triangle, with a crankshaft at each apex and three banks of 6 cylinders at the sides, pistons run in pairs in the same bores facing each other, so that for each cylinder there is one exhaust piston and one inlet piston, which avoids the need for transfer porting and loss of power. Output shaft is geared to all 3 cranks in a big transfer casing with the genny bolted on the end. They ran at 1500 rpm at full stretch, although it had been detuned for railway use to extend service intervals, the orignal MTB version were 2500 hp, hence the designation D18-25 (diesel, 18-cyl, 2500 hp) ... I could go on but I won't I am probably boring you to tears CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve
