Please help a semi IT literate person. I have down loaded the basic BVE setup. When I try and get it running it tells me it cannot 'change' to HAL - click Ok and it proceeds, I can select a train etc and sometimes the sim starts but terminates after about 15 seconds with a illegal operation message.Have I done something wrong or is my PC lacking the resources (p2 with 192 m of ram) Any help will be greatfully accepted.

It could be a problem with your 3D graphics drivers. What graphics card are you using? It must be DirectX compatible. I remember a few years ago I tried to run BVE on a system with an old ATI 3D rage, that did not have proper DirectX support, and I had the same problem. You should try updating the drivers for your card, and if that doesn't help (or none are available) you may need to replace the card with a newer one.Or, as Wulf said, try changing your display settings. That might help.-Jay

I've tried to put BVE on my old system (Win98 SE, 16MB RAM, Pentium I 133Mhz) but I get the error message "Could not enable Direct 3D" or words to that effect. does this just nean that I need to install DirectX?Derek kaye
