I know I'm just repeating Shane & Luigi, however, the reason the download links aren't on mackoys site is, I imagine, becuase...he doesn't want people to download it.
It's a mazing how far my limited amount of common sense can go isn't it?

I would have thought that by now most people would realise that this forum is the place to seek help including missing files etc.I have always found in the past that some member has the file one is looking for (just ask Wulf or Robert Glass !!!). The file in question was on the BVE site for some time and is a Beta version. That is to say it is made available fot test purposes for a limited period.Now that mr mackoy has received feed-back on 2.9 he has considered its testing period over, has withdrawn the file and hopefully is developing version 3.There is absolutely no need for sneeky back-door manouvers which incidentally is I believe "Hacking".Cheers

No, it isnt Hacking.The file is there, and unprotected, it would be "hacking" if the file was protected by a password or something.Its Mr Mackoys own fault, he SHOULD have removed any files he didnt want people downloading.

I totally agree, if it is available that is mackoys problem. Besides the people who are moaning have probably already got BVE 2.9, think of the people who didnt get a chance!

Exactly!It is Mackoy's problem - I don't understand to some replies here - you don't like that download is still available? If I wouldn't want to download any files, I would'n put them on web and if I could want to let some people try it, I would send them a mail with special link or send them the files like attachment.

Infact I dont have BVE 2.9, I had a brief spell when it was first released as a beta then I took it off and went back to 2.5So think twice before you come to conclusions matey Like Gizmo said, its his webspace. He can do what he likes with it. There is no actual way of accessing these files through the site itself (the parts we see) If someone had gone through my site and found where I had my beta route, i would be extremly cheesed off!!! So just think about it in perspective and put yourself in Mackoys shoes. It isnt hacking your right dawa but it is called searching through peoples webspace!Which is wrongi do see your point when you say he shouldnt have it on there but as far as his website users are concerned it is not availiable hence the removed link! Further more its his website he pays for it he can keep what he likes on there! If we cant see a link on the actual page itself then it should be left alone as he has done that for a reason!That doesent mean to say that its ok for somebody to open his website as a web folder and then search for stuff manually! Thats kind of like somebody going through your private things!I did download it when i had the chance but i prefer to use bve 2.5 at the moment, perhaps it is good that its availiable again albeit in an unauthodox way because it shows people what bve really is capable of!

People on this site are SO IMMATURE Mr Mackoy has spent many,many hours making something FOR FREE, yet you still feel obliged to blame him for not taking the download of his webspace. I wouldn't be surprised if BVE dosen't last much longer if this is the attitude to Mackoy's work. Shameful, it really is.

"No it isnt wrong, it would be wrong if he had put it in a protected directory and he'd found a way around it, you have the ability to make your webspace private, thats what protected folders are all about.Webspace is public, thats the whole point of the www There are many EASY ways to protect a directory, so its definatlet 100% his own fault.
And if anyone else here doesnt want someone searching through their webspace, then make it private, because by default, your webspace is public, and thats the way it is.

Hi all!!........................I agree. It is not nice and Mackoy will not be very happy.RightIt is incredible! Many of us "cry" that BVE 2.9 isn't available yet. How get it? It is easy. Somebody send this. And it is OK?? No! So I don't know why many clamour! Its our problem dear gentlemans. I agree with Vince Black. It is Mackoys problem. Just incase anyone didnt get that,Every browser has a History button. If you go into the history area of your browser, youll get a list of every page youve visited, depending on settings.. it could have every page... ever in the history of you browsing the web.Basically the guys been searching through his history, and found the old download link. The file is where its always been, so hes done nothing wrong, at all 100% ok, totally fair.The least Mackoy could have done was change the file name, if he didnt want to go about the hassle of passwording things up.So if he doesnt want the beta to be played ( Dont see why not, i downloaded it when it was available and i cant see any difference between downloading it then and now ) he should do something about it!So dont go blaming people just because they know how to work their browser software, and get a life

basically, it boils down to this:
1) the file was taken down and Mackoy intimated that he no longer wanted people to download it. the fact you have access to it is a mistake on mackoys part, or perhaps he expected poeple to respect his wishes
2) you shouldn't tell people where to find it, because then more people are going to have something they shouldn't
3) the beta was good, but it wasn't completely ready for release, there where a few issues that needed sorting. Mackoy and his buddies are no-doubt fine tuning it and solving any problems
4) alphas and betas of programmes such as BVE, and operating systems are potentially dangerous things to have on your hard disk because they often haven't been tested for safety or contain un-corrected mistakes. if a member downloaded the files and their HD got fried (especially in the case of a youngster on a parent's or school computer), it would come back to us, and then mackoy.
In short, i think the url link should be deleted to stop anyone else from getting at it.

hello.i downloaded 2.9 that time, when it been on free publishing,
but I not install them on that times, because not have a time for it.
and, month ago I lost all download archive with broke down of old harddisk...
and I say thanks to man, who published link here, he help me to get back 2.9 version.
one serious quistion:
every time, when I running BVE 2.9 - on reading file upgrade.panel it gives me Just-In-Time Debugging window with message
An exception 'System.InvalidCastException' has occurred in bvedotnet.exeany ideas...?

I resolve that problem.it full message - "Cast from '1.0' to type 'Single' is not valid".
i change decimal pointer from comma to dot and after it working.well - it really progress after 2.5.
wow athmospher when playing U1 route.
fps really increased and I playng 1024x768x32@85, very playable...
only one problem in game - cab of train not fully filling to screen, it have one or two transparent pixels on a sides...also question for you, guys - how to see time table and station pointer, if it possible in this version?

Right click to see the timetable i think. I downloaded one of the files above, and tried it, and I was not too impressed at losing part of the cab. The train does not turn over when taking tight corners too fast.

to view the rest of the cab in 2.9 you can use the Num-pad as up down left right and use the plus and minus keys above the { and } keys to zoom in and out.it's in the manual, i thinkSee my web site? here it is:

go to control panel->national settings(or something that) after open second tab and put new decimal pointer or one first tab just use English (United States) settings.ps. that's bad, because every time after playing it need to roll back russian (for me), or your national settings...

Ok folks,Let me get this straight - Gyzma (who incidentally is a good friend of Anthony_B) has done nothing more than visit a previously-visited link in his browser... I mean, it wouldn't be there unless he'd clicked it on a page beforehand, right? So, although it might be considered unwise to post this particular piece of info here, the fact remains that the file is unprotected and accessible via a link that was once public. No blame can be attached for that, if Mr. Mackoy wanted to secure or hide the file I'm quite sure he's more than capable of doing so.
The fact that the links have been removed simply means he does not want to draw attention to it as far as new users/visitors are concerned, if you already have it in your history and then go back there, how can that be considered wrong?
There's nothing wrong with people emailing the file or a private link for it, so in effect the core of the issue is whether or not it is considered acceptable to share a public beta with anyone else in the first place... and I saw no restriction on that in the docs, so long as such links are private and not world-viewable.p.s. and that would be his right as well. I would disagree with Dawa on one point. Just because a website
has a www, http or ftp address doesn't mean it's a public "webspace"
that anyone can access without permission. There are sites on the
net that use www, http or ftp protocols that are private and most
let you know it as soon as you go on them. Lots of time on my
personal website I won't take a file off the server if I don't want
it downloaded. Instead I'll just remove the link to it on whatever

Its REALLY easy to secure a website, so if you dont secure it, its public. Tough.Also, if you dont want to take a file off the server, just rename it, that way nobody will be able to download it If the file was bve.exe ( just an example ) you could easily rename it to bve_2.exe or something, that way nobody , even if theyd gotten it before, would be able to download it.It basically boils down to one fact, "space" on the WWW is PUBLIC unless you take measures to secure it.
