Twas the Night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stiring, except for a hampster named Chicco. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care and the train ran round the Christmast tree waiting for Santa to appear.
A Christmas present to the BVE community. A train around the tree route for your Christmas season screens. Very simple graphics and very little to do except watch. It uses the RND command to generate different scenery each time you load it. Since the route is about 1000 Km long and the suggest speed is 10 kph, is should be good for about 100 hours of screen time.
Luigi Cartello made a train for the route and it is included.
The route was uploaded to the Train-sim library and to my upload site
http://home.cfl.rr.com/bvefl/download.html
. If you download from my site, send me an email with the subject of BVE download. I do not have a counter on that site yet and I would like to keep track of how may downloads go from there. Email is smace<at>netzero.net.Merry Christmas and thank you to the BVE community

"NEW Dec 01 2003"?
But it's only 30 December!

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

My error. It is a 4 day weekend here, and I lost track of the day. I had the original target posting time of Sunday (today) very late at night Eastern time US, So It would have appeared Dec 1 to most people when the next checked. Consider is a post Thanksgiving early Christmas sale*.*For non US members: The Thursday Thanksgiving holiday is considered to be the beginning of the Christmas season ( In face real die hards would consider the arrival of Santa in front of Macys department store during the yearly parade to be the exact moment) The next 3 days are amoung the biggest shopping days of the year.

Smace, it's clear that you put a thousand percent effort into
this route! The scenery actually works very well, the train is
perfect for the route and the music is excellent. I'll have to
compile up some more xmas music to rotate with the current file.

I think this route might even hatch some ideas when more people
download it and try it. I came up with a train ride through a
Christmas city with all the trimmings, a horse-drawn wagon ride
through a park and a Haunted Halloween ride! Christopher Tarana

>Tomhas.. Have words with Smace, I sent him some design briefs
for possible Theme Park Dark rides. There's also apprently
a dev-level route shell circulating...I take it you have seen some of the ideas suggested for
the 2MC (which never really took off ) which I am thinking
of reformulating as a 'showcase' as opposed to 'contest' site. For the fenefit of the rest of the group the ideas pages in relation
to the 2MC are at:
http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve/2mc-intro.html
http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve/2mc-glines.html
& http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve/2mc-refs.html
I like the idea of a Christmas city!
In fact wa-ay-back (not sure if it was here or Crotrainz)
I suggested that someone should do a city from Northern England
in full snow and Christmas regalia. This was an idea inspired
by postcards of old UK trams and of course the fact that there
were some german tram routes around (none of which had winter garb-
I'm still hoping <hint hint to Martin Finken and others>.
What resulted was LHE Tom Beevers NETram route (of which I haven't
heard much recently)
Of course if a Christmas city why not hints to Lionnel,Marklin or
Hornby in the scenry or route ideas.? <g>
BTW If anyone wants a 'Ghost' train of a different sort
I will (at the risk of annoying Nathan) agin mention
that I would like to see someone one
produce the BrockenBhan line from the Harz mountains in
Eastern Germany. If you read up the history of this line and
surronding area you'll know why I consider it an ideal candidate
as a 'Ghost' route for BVE.
Why does a Ghost route have to be Halloween related?Plus I'm sure the Desutche speaking contingent here would
be willing to assist? Of course some other suggestions for 'Ghost' routes could include-
- The 'secret' city routes in Moscow, Poyngang etc.
- The Liverpool Overhead
- The Tigris Bank Subway ( A weapon of mass Tranist in Iraq?)
- The Maginot Line (A narrow Guage route underground in france)However, I will be very upset and dissapointed if certian routes appear in BVE or elsewhere. This is because of the history attached to them. By virtue of the history, it would be inappropriate to trivialise them by inclusion of them in an 'add-on' for a train simulator. I hope the group understands the type of routes I mean and why they should not be 'trivalised'.(Note to Mods- I am asking that
in the unlikley event of the type of route I mention surfacing
in this forum or elsewhere action will be strong, swift and
un-ambiguous)Alex

The train is taken from the SF&C n. 15 open tramcar, made a couple of years ago to run on Alfred Barten's rural tramline. You can download the original tram "Shelburne Falls & Colrain trolley #15 open car" and the route "Barebones Next Generation route (future Shelburne Falls & Colrain trolley line), prerelease v.2.5" on http://alfredbarten.com/ : check the BVE Work page (a shame that the project has been suspended).Luigi Cartello

Hi Alex,I agree with the sentiment, but am a bit confused about the "certain routes" to which you refer. Are you talking about "Bridge on the River Kwai" kind of route which have had a bad history, or have I missed your point?>I take it you have seen some of the ideas suggested for

>No you have not missed the point.
You have found one of the exact examples I was thinking of.
It was routes like the Burma 'Death' Railway that have particular history attached to them that I felt should not appear.
There are also certian routes in Eruope that have bad history
attached to them. I'm sorry if I went into serious mode but I felt it was important.
The comments apply to any train-simulation not just BVE.
(If you are a mod yourself, I would appreciate a comment being
made in the general foum as well. )>>I take it you have seen some of the ideas suggested for

RE: Merry Christmas

Two answers come to mind:
1) Amtrak would call that an on time train.2) Christmas traffic around the shopping area delayed the trip.

RE: Merry Christmas

On a more serious line, I played with the timetable on the tree route, and made the leaving time greater than 24:00 and the arival time 100 hours later. The route ran and started to count at the start time and head to the end time. (I also do not have 100 hours so I do not know if it would make it). It looks like the clock is just an incremental counter and does not care what the time is. Might be useful in making a long slow route like a US trans-contential slow freight route. You could make a timetable that took more than 24 hours. Play it in pieces to finish, but it looks like it would work.
