I am working on a small route as a Thanksgiving weekend and learning project. It is a small loop of a train running under a Christmas tree. Just a screen filler that plays music as the train goes round and round. (It is not really a loop, it just looks that way) I found several interesting effects, as shown by the attached Track Viewer Screen shotsThe first Is an overhead shot of the route. Note that the route, which has a curve radius of about 95 meters to give a diameter of 600 meters, appears continuous. The sceanery from the front dissapears as the next section appears. When running the route in this view, you can see this happen. Also note that the edges of the "ground" meet even at the edge of the view. I made the outside side of the ground large enough to cover the gap. (which turned out to be about 200 meters). These do not unload as you go over them. Apparently the 25m (or so) unload effect only applys to the size of the object at the track center. This is the only real useful thing I found here. If you have tight curves and make a custom ground, you will not have those pie shaped gaps showing up at the edge of the worldAn interest set of effects – image 1

This scene is looking 90 degrees right. Note that you can see all the way across the loop to the other side.An interest set of effects – image 3The final sceen is looking backwards with track viewer. You can actually run backwards with the viewer and scenery is there. Now I do not know exactly what you are seeing. Are you looking back or looking far forward? I also do not know what use this is currently, but maybe in the future, we can see something out a rear view mirror? An interest set of effects – image 4If I can make this work, I will release it before Christmas. BTW for those who are always in a war with the other train simulators, this was originally an idea posted in on of the MSTS forums. The original post was about circle routes and the comment ( which was not really done as a positive) was something like: So what are you going to do, put a giant Christmas tree in the middle of the loop? I thought that was a good idea, so I did Ideas from one sim that stimulate other sims are a good thing.

Brilliant!! You've stolen my thunder you swine, but I love what you're doing. I've been toying with similar ideas myself, but had never got past the planning stage due to other projects. Maybe I'll get my finger out sometime next year. If your loop has a circumference of 600 metres (I presume that's what you meant, as 95 metre radius would give a 190 metre diameter) your rear view is probably actually a view 600 metres forward down the line.Just one tip. You might not notice the ground unloading if you didn't use something that was so obviously textured.Any possibility of extending it to run around the whole house?Keep up the good work!!Technical Numpty

>Brilliant!! You've stolen my thunder you swine.

Oink Oink, Actually I did this to learn about the RND command, everything else was a nice side discovery. The Christmas tree thing was just a lark. No prior planning at all. I like what came out.>

>600 metres forward down the line. I think the same. Original circumference was 1000 meters and you still see a loop, but not the back facing scenery. Can still see across that loop>

Thanks.>Any possibility of extending it to run around the whole
>house? If I release this ( and I think I will for fun) I will give permission for anyone to extend it. As it stands it is a very simple route. Not counting objects and set up info, the actual route is only about 10 statements. With some work, I think a figure 8 could be made as well as an around the house line. To fill the 999999 meter length would take a little work with Excell to really do neat things with this.

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

RE: An interest set of effects

That is what happens. Thanks for the suggestion. I backed the drawing distance down 100 meters at a time and the distance goes away. Since the distance view curves around behind you, you lose the scenery behind you. Interestingly enough, though, you can still see across the circle. Half this circle is the part to the left of the track the other is the part to the right. At 200 meters you can still see some of the right hand parts that are further than 200 meters in view, no object, just the ground.
