What's the difference between .announce and .doppler? – image 1

Dear members, I have two questions:
1) What's the difference between the .announce and the .doppler
commands?
2) .doppler can be used in .rw files or is it only accepted in
.csv files?Any help is very appreciated, my thanks in advance,
(currently coding my Guaianazes to Mogi route and
trying to add some sounds)

I think doppler can be used in both rw and csv, just use @ instead of .Annouce simply plays a sound as it is. Doppler will tweak a looped sound so it sounds as though the train is passing it. Useful for grade crossing bells and many other things.HTH!Tim Frost

Doppler is an effect which for example
You are in a Police Car and the siren is on. The siren will be a constant volume since you are always the same distance from the siren. Use .announce for this
But if you are a passer-by. You hear a siren that is increasing volume as the police car is coming towards you. Then when it passes you, it would be the loudest. Then you hear the siren going softer and softer as the police car goes further in ths distance. This is called the Doppler effect. So use .doppler for this.

Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!

Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

Actually that is wrong (sorry Phil).Doppler is what happens to a sound (as the ear hears it) when there is a relative velocity between source and listener.Let's say you are sitting at a junction hoping to see a train. The train approaches you, and blows his horn, note the pitch. When the train is nearly on top of you, the sounds will be at their loudest, and the pitch will be slightly higher then normal due to compression of the wavefront. When the train passes your position, the volume and more importantly the pitch of the sound decreases, because it's now moving away from you and hence the speed of the source (train) is subtracted from the speed (frequency) of the sound waves emanating from it. This gives the familiar drop in pitch when an object passes you, and it is this effect that is known as the Doppler Effect (named after the scientist who defined it).CiaoSaxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve

To all BVE developers:Just to let you all know, after several tests, I have to
report the following:1) You can use @doppler in a .rw route file, but
BVE 2.90.0003 won't run (it gives that default message
saying that an application couldn't be handled, etc...).
2) It works well in BVE 2.5.3 or previous versions, although you
receive the message 'Error 32 Type Mismatched' before the
route loading, so just confirm all these error messages after the promptings (or reports in BVE 2.5.3) and everything's gonna be all right. 3) This means I have to convert my .rw file to .csv format if I want
to see the .doppler effect been applied in my incoming route (sigh!)
Hope this feedback helps someone somewhere,Kind Regards,

Just to confirm to what Stooopid and Tom say, it does look like you forgot the variables in the @doppler statement. The Southern route is coded in .rw and uses several @doppler commands, and still works in v2.9Cheers
