Is it possible to disable these, and if so how? In my opinion, realism has its limitations. More specifically, I prefer a less hands-on approach to railway simulation. I quite often like to be in the vicinity of my monitor, perhaps whilst doing something else, watching the progress, casually adjusting a control from time to time, without having to jump up every time a vigilance alarm goes off, and then, if I am not in time, having to perform that ridiculously complicated key combination to get the thing going again. Moreover, I quite like to break the rules occasionally. Going through a 25mph zone at 90mph seems quite a reasonable thing to do, provided one is not at the controls of a real locomotive. I would like to be able to do this without suffering the same penalty, as happens on some routes (or trains if that is the relevant item). As a lurker here (hitherto), and a consumer, purely, who is unlikely ever to make a contribution to this body of simulation, may I express my gratitude and appreciation to all those builders of routes and trains. Whilst a very significant proportion of these seem to be British, as I am, I particularly like the foreign routes, some of which give a real flavour of their country. A good realism!

Switch off the safety system. Ctrl+F2 I think. If it isn't, it is Shift+F2.

Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

Then you get a horrible ringing noise in anything more than P1 or 2, depending on the train. Tim Frost

>Then you get a horrible ringing noise in anything more than
>P1 or 2, depending on the train. You get it when you are above half the number of notches.
You can get rid of it by
replacing that ats.wav with a blank .wav
OR
Switching off the safety system, then switching it on again, then reset continuation chime. Then switch the safety system off. Now, you shouldn't get that ringing sound.
But if you switch the safety system on again and press any station in the F4, you will get that ringing sound although the safety system is on.

Ok, so you have to do that every time you start the game. Wouldn't it be easier to just do it once and for all by editing the train.dat and not have to worry about deleting sounds and not hearing them when you actually need to? Tim Frost

RE: emergency brakes

>But it still prevents you from motoring when the doors are opened!yeah, I figured that out a couple of weeks back when running BRR, I was stopped at a staion with an approach controlled signal about 2 miles ahead, so the doors wouldn't close. I playing about with the safety system and I heard the engine start :p You just need to turn the safety system off until you are out of the station and the doors will automatically close.Derek kaye
