Hi,I would suggest a good starting point for 'newbies' is to check out the help section at Steve Green's http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk, and click on help. The main BVE program can be downloaded by visiting the official website, by Mackoy, and click 'Get' on the left of the page.
The URL for Mackoy's site is http://mackoy.cool.ne.jp.If you are looking for an International database of routes, a good site to visit is www.bve-routes.com, however, for a database of English routes and trains, visit my site, http://www.bvedepot.co.uk.
There are many sites with fantastic routes, just see Anthony Bowden's superb site's links page, there are about 60, at a guess.
A good place to start with a route is the five-star Birmingham Cross City South V1.2, available at Anthony Bowden's site, http://www.railsimroutes.co.uk, followed closely by a wide selection of routes and trains at Steve Green's http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk.
For British trains, I suggest http://www.bvetrains.co.uk, a site brought to us by Robert Glass, Steve Green & Anthony Bowden, however, for trains not there, you will find a few of them and several 'Deltics' at Wulf's (moderator) site, http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve. Another suggestion for futre posts is too not type in so called 'Txt Tlk' on public forums as here, especially, there are many non-english fans / readers, many of them perhpas, won't understand the way you ahve writtenm the origional post. I am not moaning, just suggesting, as we have some very good moderators, don't we Wulf. Yours,
Damon Cox.
