Hi all group members, need some guidance on how to install & open zip files,to right locations. They need to be explained as a step by step format as I am a complete novice to grasp any computer lingo.Have bve 2.3 installed but struggling to download edin-carn,as most things in this sim are zips etc.We need to start at the beginning with "save in","save as"& "file name" letter boxes. Also is it possible to have both 2.3 & 2.5 versions on board so as to go from one to the other when changing sims.Tried to follow some sites info but found hard to grasp and no two sites said the same thing.Any help in the right direction will help,Thankyou for listening.
Hi,Here's some basics :-1) Download and install Winzip 2) Make a new folder called 'Bve' in your download folder/drive 3) Download the routes/trains you want to this location, leaving the filename as-is 4) Create another folder and call it 'Install' 5) Using the right-hand mouse button, drag the zip to this folder and release the mouse. From the popup menu choose 'Extract to here' 6) Now you will see the folders contained in the zip file, from here you can carefully copy these to your Bve installation. If you're unsure about the conventions used, look in the \railway\object and railway\route folders. These two locations are where most of the material needs to reside. There may also be a sound folder, if so it goes under \railway\sound 7) Load Bve and test, if all works correctly you can now delete the files from the Install folder. That's it basically Ciao Saxon Locomotive Works - "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer"http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve
Edin-Aberdeen won't work on BVE 2.3. You need BVE 2.5 for it. I have three different versions of BVE installed, 2.3, 2.5, 2.9. The main stuff(objects, trains, etc) are in the BVE 2.3 folder.
-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!----- Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it. Eh, where did my signature go? Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it. Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)! It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet. Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...
I just have a folder in My Document called BVE_Setup. Any BVE thing I download goes there and once I install it, it goes into a folder, either routes, trains or utilities. Also, Try having both WinZip and WinRar as the both have advantages and disadvantages.<EDIT>To make it make sense </EDIT>Derek kaye
