9:03am - The BNSF #4723 with 6 Metroliner coaches is ready to depart Whitefish Platform. This is probably the most special trip ever to run across Marias Pass. All the passengers onboard are MSTS fans anxious to ride across the real Marias Pass they've traversed on their computers hundreds of times. It's a completely full train. Little do they know they will only see half of it............
The scenic climb towards Belton, our first stop
Passengers admire the view of the river down the valley
A little bump keeps everyone excited....not far out of Belton now but a little behind schedule
9:33am - We're sitting at Belton Platform, MSTS fans take the opportunity to take some photographs while I take a refresher.
On the road again, coming round off our steep gradient and onto a level crossing
Rounding a sharp corner out of Belton just before the first minor derailment occurred
After the tiny derailment where a coupler broke and a coach jumped off the rails slightly, I decided to resume from the saved position and then wait about 15 minutes at the sight where we pretended to 'fix the problem'. Now we charge up to Essex running quite late.
Well what do you know, it happenned again. I went through the procedure like the first derailment, but now the delay really is major (over 30 minutes). Here's our train spanned out against the mountain.
Hmmm, what is that in the distance on my track? And why have I got a red instead of a green and right turn?
I didn't get a green and it didn't stop..................
Holy crap! It's may day! And of all places for a collision. Nobody was able to escape the train before impact, but luckily, no parts of the train were sent over the viaduct. Just imagine the rescue operation!!Explanation of the derailment. Essentially, my train left Belton at 9:37am, 5 minutes late. The two 'derailments' (don't forget I wasted a long time 'pretending to fix them') increased the delay to over 30 minutes. Obviously, the AI freight had proceeded through when we were supposed to be on the track, and then was even permitted to enter the block before the crash, even though we were approaching. It didn't even get stopped there, and ploughed right on into the single track area and hence, my train.
