Here are a series of shots of Train #94 headed eastbound toward Glenn Yard in Chicago from Kansas City...These shots show the new scenery on the ATSF/GM&O Joint Trackage between Coal City and Joliet as prepared for v1.81 of GM&O Northern Lines update coming down the pike soon...Enjoy!

Four more shots of Joliet....#1 - GM&O South Joliet Yard, located approximately 1 mile south of Joliet Union Depot.#2 - JO Tower protects the junction of the Pequot Line and the Old Main Line. Both lines reconnect at Mazonia south of here.#3 - Use of unnecessary force in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers HAS been authorized.... Illinois State Penitentiary at Joliet, home of Jake and Elwood and the rest of the band!#4 - Crossing under the "J", looking west....JBD

Ummmmm... Joliet is 40 miles south of CUS.... Route goes all the way to CUS and Dearborn....Ron: Thanks for the double-track bridge info! I DO have the bridges set as terrain objects but clearance problems forced me to raise them enough to get trains under them... Nothing but AI trains run on the "J" anyways... I'll give that DT bridge a try, though!JBD

Looks real good.just a couple of notes, I don't know if you've made the buildings from scratch or just used what was avalible,if it's the latter while you did a real nice job of portraying "the charm school in Joliet" that's the new Stateville(west side of the Desplaines River a long pulled up EJ&E spur is the closest rails to that)the old jug (the one at the opening of BB is the one along the GM&O.
As for the J overpass I'm not sure from the angle you took the screen cap but if you're interested I do have some pics of the EJ&E's crossing of the AT&SF/GM&O/Desplaines River with a rather spectaular double track(oddly the J switches to single track over the river with scrap rail to counter weight the bridge but never had the second track)lift bridge.
Just some observations from someone in the area, take them or leave them at your leisure.Gary S

Stateville? Is that a new prison? I thought the one right next to the GM&O (station named State Prison in old timetables!) was the "Charm School" (cute alias)... Those ARE standard buildings, just a bunch of "banks" put together and stacked up...I shot the J crossing looking from the east. If you look REALLY close you'll see the swingspan bridge in the background. I'd appreciate you're passing along any pix you have of the area! I'm a little shy of stuff on the north side of Joliet!JD

I'll see what I can dig up, as for Stateville I have to give full credit to the late great Steve Goodman and Lincoln Park Pirates(our drivers are friendly and courteous,their good manners you always will get cuz they're all recent gradu-ates of the charm school in Jo-liet) and most likely the GM&O timetable retained the name from when the old prison was THE jug it's now where they house the short timers(most likely was in the waning GM&O days as well)Gary S

Here's some links to some pics on an EJ&E fan site regarding the area around bridge 198(as the J calls it)most of these are from the cab of a J train heading west out of Joliet, in the cab shots the first bridge is the ex GM&O then the AT&SF then river, there is one BW shot from the west approach of bridge 198 looking east(you can see a southbound freight on the AT&SF tracks on the east bank)so there seems to be a bit of a hill between the GM&O and the AT&SF but as you'll see bridge 198 tends to dominate the area and then there are some shots of bridge 198 looking north from the AT&SF ROW.http://eje.railfan.net/photos_neal/n_row01.html

Some plate girder bridges are designed to have ballast on them. As the one you are using is designed for ballast, go ahead and tick the "Terrain Object" button for this bridge. It will look much better with ballast on it.A double track version is available in a post with the forum file name of 412fb3f13d9c0f94.zipSRV Ron

I've been debating about this lately, Tim.... Definitely coming out with an update file but not sure whether I'll do a full release but given some of the problems encountered by those who are "reading challenged" (in re: readme's, forum postings, etc.) I'm probably stuck doing a full release...JD

Shots looks great Jim. I sit by the power plant in Preston Heights on the BNSF main just down by the road crossing that goes over the river. Can't wait for the update.
