Ok, some shots from my recent outing at Maybeury, WV. I showed up just as the sun started to crest the mountains. I only had a few hours to catch the action on the grade.First thing when I showed up was a nice coal drag heading east...

And it's pushers working hard...
Then I got a mixed freight after about a 30min. wait...
Right after that another freight headed up the grade...

The train in question was stopping as most do before heading down the long grade into Altoona either to let helpers off or to check brakes. There was also another train coming through the tunnel a short time later, which is why the lights might have been off.Chris Bogley

That area is great for watching trains. Many, many spots that are built with railfans in mind. Sometimes when you go out watching trains, your never sure about weather you will be bothered or not, but when you go up to Altoona area and up the hill, as long as you stick to the areas that mostly everyone else uses, you'll have a great time. I was there the last week of July, and plan to go back again very soon.Chris Bogley

I've been there nine times since 1995 (most recently on the first week of August. You'll also see some of the helpers available for MSTS! The only bad thing about it is that there is only a bit of foreign power because of cab signals.
