I had to stop and play with these MLT gems. In response to a few requests about progress on the route (thanks for the interest ), I took a few sceen shots. I've added a few miles, from milepost 556 to 552, including two crossovers, almost all forest and hills. The first picture is under US-123 in North Georgia near Toccoa. I haven't planted any trees there yet, but that's what I'm working on now!The next is approaching the crossover at 552 (all pictures heading South), then the crossover at 555, and then there's a shot with a foxhole view, just because ...Toccoa isn't far - after that town is built (it's a slow process), I'll begin the first steps toward uploading something.Man - I really like Danny's artwork on those MLT locomotives.Mark

Hi Mark...Great job... Really like what you are doing with the vegitation... I have driven through Georgia a few times and those pine trees have really captured the look... Very impressive... I liek the ground texture too - way better than kujo green... Hope to have my rs1 out this weekend - providing nothing pops up... Have a good day...Regards,
Scott

Thanks for the comments, folks - Scott that RS1 will most likely be assigned to Gainesville. Georgia when you upload it - I'm looking forward to it!Here's another picture of a longer string of MLT and a few of the great engines by Keith Getter and Pete Abrams, too. And lots of trees. Unfortunately, they're not Georgia pines. But Judd Spittler's trees do look good, and Phil Voxland added a few gazillion pines to this route also.Mark
A Southern Railway FanBy the way - did I mention the sounds with the MLT stuff? I had headphones on when I took those screen shots, and almost ran for cover!

Agreed! It's good to see somebody doing a line from the "deep South". Now if only someone would do the "Rathole". Henry

Well, For what it's worth, I'm doing research while I consider making a Trainz (yeah, bad word that) route that represents the Central Of Georgia line from Savannah to Macon. Little over 100 miles of track.I just wish there was some way to take the giant pine tree texture from Trainz and convert it to MSTS. The things are perfect.

Nah. Georgia pines, especially ones from the Toccoa and Coastal areas, are different looking. They're called "fat lighter" or "loblollies" by the locals.basically, they're long needle pines, and are known for having huge bases and reaching heights up to 200 feet. Also, the color is darker, their green being a shade and a half (figured that up on PSP) darker than the regular Pine green. (just info here)Long needle pines get their names from the fact that their needles are around 18 inches or more long, but never over 24 inches.Fat Lighter, refers to the ammount of sap in a tree. It's not uncommon for chainsaws to dull after five or six trees during logging in that area, and there are stories of houses built from the material, burning so hot that they blister the paint on the firetrucks there to put them out. Down here, the standing rule is, if the house is fat lighter, then the FD won't bother to try to put it out. They'll just contain the damage.Edit to add:As an interesting side note, in the coastal areas where Old growth logging is still taking place, there's a rather interesting industry. Stump Harvesting. It's not uncommon to see a truck or gondola car, loaded to the brim with half rotting, water logged, sand encrusted pine tree stumps. These stumps, are in turn taken to a few processing plants where they make (of all things) TNT out of them. Yeah, the stumps are ground up and used to make explosives. It's not uncommon, for a good sized stump, 8 feet across at root base, and 3 at the tree's cut off point, being bought from private owners for two and three thousand dollars. Most places, however, will just remove it for free, and then fill in the hole they leave.
